Abused, abandoned puppy going home
A little more than one month after he was discovered covered in blood and staggering in a Phoenix alley, a puppy named Clay is ready for his new family to take him home.
Clay's story began when a good Samaritan found him on Dec. 2. That person took the badly injured 5-month-old pit-bull mix to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control for emergency treatment. AC&C employees believe somebody tried to crop the puppy's ears, then abandoned him when they could not stop the bleeding. In addition to the major blood loss Clay suffered as a result of his wounds, the puppy was also malnourished, vets said. After more than a month of TLC, Clay is doing great and is ready to go home, AC&C employees said. Clay's new family, which already has a purple bed for him and a tag with his name on it, will pick up their new baby Friday morning, giving one puppy's sad story a happy ending.
