Found Cat
I found a cat about 10 minutes ago.
He's an intact male, not declawed. Clearly a stray but very friendly. He wasn't scared of Dodger until he felt cornered. He is starving - probably only 4-5lbs - his head looks too big for his body because he is so underweight. He has an unusually long tail and is quite vocal. Very affectionate - purring all the time. He is restless and gets agitated when I leave him alone. All he wants is to eat and be cuddled. He is breaking into the bag of cat food as I type so I have to go! I was trying to show you that he has a white spot on his neck:

He is breathing through his nose (he was just eating); he does however sound sick...He is purring all the time but it doesn't sound right and his meow is raspy.
I cannot take him to the vet today but I will try and call for an appointment tomorrow. It really will depend on cost because I am unemployed right now. I am going to try and give him a bath later - once he has time to digest. He was prowling around but has settled now... He loves having his chin rubbed.

Definitely looks underweight, if the size of those paws is anything to go by. Thanks for taking him in.
You could put up some posters to see if anyone is looking for him. If no-one comes forward (rare, in my experience), I hope you find a way to keep him; maybe the vet will allow small monthly payments. I don't know of any rescues offhand in Ottawa, but they often have access to cheaper vets. His raspy meow may not indicate anything serious. I have a little cat whose tongue often lolls out of his mouth, don't know why, but he is quite healthy. |

Aww Lissa,he looks so comfy, today was his lucky day:love: even if he has some resporatory problem,at least he has food and a warm place to stay.
Maybe a rescue in Ottawa could point you to a vet who takes payments,or at least is cheaper. You might have trouble bathing him,I would give him some more time before attempting it,especially if he seems to have a meducal problem. A good brushing will be almost as good. I've had about a dozen cats and never attempted to bath anyone of them Badger you beat me to it!!

Oh I wish I could keep him...
I will make a few posters and contact FOAP which is the only rescue I know of around here. I have posted his info at the humane society and will send a picture when they respond. Oh no, I just found a little wound on his leg - doesn't look serious but it is recent enough to still be bright red with blood... Ok, I won't give him a bath just yet - he is probably too sick/weak to groom himself properly so it would probably be asking for trouble... If he was healthy, I think he would be at least 12lbs - he's very long!
