Broken Broom Rally - June 7, 2014 - 11:00am until 3:00pm in EDT

Not sure where to put this, it applies to more than just cats and dogs, includes wildlife. Think it might get most coverage here but mods please move if another spot deemed more appropriate. We got this by email. The Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1385330875059312/

For years the Ontario government has been sweeping animal issues under the carpet. We need to stop this historical, continual disregard for animals by our elected officials and those who are in a position to care for animals. The Broken Broom Rally will address this issue and demand changes for all species of animals who have been neglected, ignored and swept under the carpet. Representatives from various levels of government will attend. Speakers from ethical, respected animal organizations have been invited and will be attending to represent whatever animal issue they are focused on.

In addition to keynote speakers, there will be representatives who fight for changes in many areas: i.e. Shorthills Deer Hunt, marine life, OSPCA, BSL, zoo animals, exotic animals, puppy mills, etc.

We will update this page as final arrangements are made. At this time confirmed speakers/guests are:
MPP Frank Klees,
MPP Cheri DiNovo
MP Olivia Chow (depending on availability)
Rob Laidlaw - Zoocheck
Mercy For Animals
Erica Ritter - Author and Advocate
More will be added as they confirm, including a couple of celebrities.

We need to have as many people as possible so please feel free to share this event with anyone who is an animal lover or pet owner. We welcome groups to set up car pools and a page for that will be posted as we get closer to the event.

The tentative plan is to march from Toronto City Hall to Queens Park.

We are in the very preliminary stages of planning right now so please continue to check on this page for updates. A website will also be available shortly.

Please keep in mind this is a rally not a protest. Nothing confrontational and families are welcome to bring children. All signage will be provided.

Egos will be checked at the door so various groups representing all species and issues can come together as one voice to demand change.

We have never been in such a good place to make changes. There will be an election coming up and this is the perfect time to make our demands known. No politician will get our vote if they don't have animal welfare as part of their platform. Time to break the broom and stop sweeping animals under the carpet.

*** PLEASE NOTE:
If you are not a member of RAAW you will not be able to add your name to the list showing you will attend. Please don't let that prevent you from sharing the information. You don't need to be on the list to show up.
We will make changes to the settings as soon as FB stops giving us problems.

I'm just going to bump this a few times to be sure it stays up near the top so lots can read it. Any Ontario peeps think they can go?

LOL, when we first got it I though it was about curling. Brooms. No idea what the connection is with the word broom.

It's about stopping them sweeping the issues under the carpet, so to speak--break the broom and it all stays out in the open so it can be dealt with! But it also breaks up those rowdy, noisy middle-of-the-night curling parties! You know how boisterous those curlers are! heheheh
