Question Valgus

hello all, i am wondering if anyone has heard of valgus? My 7 month old Dogue de Bordeaux has just been diagnosed with it. i noticed it when she was about 4 1/2 months old, her front paws started turning outwards. i didnt think it was anything thought maybe it was just the way her breed was, then it started getting worse. She isnt overweight she weighs 65 pounds. Vet said she is in good shape, she is on a good dog food, Canin Royal, i am in desperate need of some info. i looked on the internet and their isnt too much about it, talked to a few breeders and they havent heard off it. neither her mother or father have it, and i really dont want to have her go in for surgery if there is something else i can do, any suggestions is greatly appreciated. thank you

Welcome to the board, muztangblondy.

I think if it were us, we'd be trying to find a good orthopedic specialist. Treatment seems to differ depending on which bones are involved and it can be tricky to manage effectively. I did find a site with a fair amount of information: http://cal.vet.upenn.edu/projects/sa...1/41mast.htm#b If you scroll up and down, there is a lot of technical talk there, but it seems to indicate that young dogs treated as they grow tend to have better outcomes than those allowed to finish growing before treatment. Is that what your vet indicated?

A specialist would be able to give you a list of options and probably outcomes. If there are nonsurgical options available, they'd know of them!

for your dog! Keep us posted on her progress!
