Dark stools from liver content in food ?

This pretty much coincided overnight with a food change from C/D canned to the "Lick Your Chops" Holistic Senior formula (also canned) , in that her poops are now extremely dark. She's otherwise fine energy wise, eating fine, no other changes to poops except color etc etc. She's actually gained back about 1+ pounds which was needed on her as she had gone from about 16 pounds to 13 in recent year or so and it was noticeable on her frame. She seems to be doing quite well on this diet.

So I read somewhere on the net that liver content in foods can cause this, but wanted to run it by the forum to verify...is this common ? The C/D was alot of rice and by-products, no liver that i'm aware of. First ingredient in the LYC food is beef, then beef broth, and third is chicken liver.

I think iron supplements can do this. If you notice that the stools are staying dark or black, you may want to take in a sample to your vet for testing. It can indicate bleeding higher up the digestive tract.
