My cat is crying loud at 4am in the morning...help!

Hi everyone!
I've joined this forum today and already want to have some advise from you.

I moved out from parent's house recently with my male cat (4years old).
Then I have problem with noise (loud crying) he makes in early in the morning.
Currently I and my hasband and my cat live in one room apartment and will need to stay here another month at least until we find a new apartment.
Maybe he is stressed to be in the new place and stuck in small room compare to my parents house. He is kind of active cat but wasn't acting like this before.

I was wondering how people cope with those loud crying of cats in the morning?
Is there any way to train cat not to cry during the night or early in the morning?

My hasband and I really love this cat but my hasband is starting to lose patience and I don't know what to do.
Please advise me if anything. I will appriciate it so much

Is your cat hungry? If so, sometimes leaving a bowl of crunchies for him to eat onvernight will help. Is he scared? I leave the kitchen stove light on so Mooki can see her dishes in the dark and so she can see her way into the bedroom...haven't had any problems since she grew up. When she was a kitten, she would cry until I picked her up and brought her into bed...she would cuddle up purring and we all went back to sleep and then she learned to just come in herself...it was almost like she couldn't find me in the dark or something...

Btw, I have a pet bed at the foot of my bed that she curls up in and is quite happy

Is it because he's hungry or just wants attention?
Some cats have a hard time adapting to new circumstances. Did he have a playmate when you were living with your parents? That would be a huge change.
He might be bored, now that he has only your husband and you to rely on for his amusement. If you are both away all day and he is stuck in an unfamiliar environment, that would make his situation even more 'platte'.
Make sure you play with him regularly, buy him some new toys. Can he get to a window and watch the world go by? Stimulation and lots of cuddles is the answer to your problem.

you just moved, your cat is more than likely not used to your new apartment. It took my cats about 2 weeks to get used to the new surroundings and in the meantime I had to put up with cries in the night, them not eating on a regular basis, among other problems.

Cats are very territorial and often do not like change.

Just pay more attention to him and give him lots of love. Extra toys to play with might help as well.

Were your parents early risers? I was thinking if your kitty was used to somebody being up early, then he is calling for that person. How close were your parents to your kitty? He may be calling for them. Cats don't like change and this change would be particularly difficult if your kitty was close to your parents. How about getting something from their place with their scent on it to put in his new kitty bed?

My Jasper had a stray friend that would come to our house at 4am and/or 9pm. If she was late or after she passed away ( Misty) Jasper would howl until she showed up at the deck. After she passed away it took about a month or so for him to stop calling her.

I lived at my parents house from when he was kitten to 2 year old,
then I moved out for 2 years then now we are together again.
I took care of him most of his childhood (kittenhood?),
so (I hope) we bonded enough to be separeted for 2 years ( these days I visited him often ).

I think biggest difference from my parent house is that he had a pal (female cat) there and now he doesn't.
They used to play together but both seems to be independent from each other so we decided to take male cat with us and leave female one for my parents.

He is kind of cat really love being with human and be patted or touched, so I'll try to spend more time with him. That's seems to be a solution.

He may also miss his former companion. If he was with another cat before and now he's alone, that might be a big part of why he's crying out.

I think he is calling for his companion. Cats and dogs do mourn losses of companions. Is it possible to have the female over for visits?

Ok I see...Unfortunately my parents lives really far so I can't take him there for a visit nor bring female cat here.

His behavier is getting a bit better since I spend more time to play with him so I will keep working on it.

Perhaps it would be best for him if he would go back to live with your parents because that is where his companion is and he clearly misses either the female cat and/or your parents. He got used to a life with them and it seems that he misses that. Perhaps he can go back there and you can adopt another cat from a local Shelter and give that new kitty a wonderful and lovign home?

That is not such a bad idea, Masha. We just don't know the emotions animals feel when they are taken away from their companions. I wonder how the kitty will feel without Orange though.

I was aware of that changing environment of cat could be risky but my cat ( male cat ) has allergy against some kind of food and need some medical care & extra attention to his skin condition.
He also broke his leg into half when he went outside and had an operation 2 years ago, so someone really need to watch out for him not going outside or eat something weird.

All of these are the main reason I couldn't leave him at my parents house without me visiting constantly. I couldn't let my parents do all those work for him.

Too bad for him need to stay in small place with less companies, but hopefully he is going to get to used to it.
Also, I need to try some more stuff to make him confortable.

Keep playing with him, finding new ways to stimulate him. If you have a place for a bird feeder outside a window, or a balcony where the birds will come for food (even if it is just pigeons, although they are a bit messy), cats love watching birds.

For the bird issue, fortunately some small birds (and squirrels) visits by the window to keep him excited. (Our room is in basement)
Hopefully we'll have a balcony when we move to a bigger apartment.
