Looking for info before I adopt Adult Himalayan

I was looking to adopt an adult Himalayan for Christmas but the wife assures me that if you adopt an adult Himalayan it will urinate all over the house if you have other cats. In other words, it will refuse to use the litter box. Any adice on the matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea why that would happen and have not heard of this. Is she hoping to get a kitten instead? There are some on this board who have cats of this breed, so hopefully they will see your post and offer advice.

My hubby and I's first pet together was a wonderful flame point himi. I introduced a second cat to him after he was over 5 years old and never had any problems with him peeing anywhere except his litter box.

Himi's are beautiful. Spectacular blue eyes.

Their fur requires grooming, no getting away from that, especially as they get older. Fur balls are a problem as well.

Vocal cats too, like to talk.

Also in any multi cat house, you should have a litterbox for each cat. I have 3 indoor cats right now, 3 litterboxes.

I have to say - I haven't heard of any cat that will just refuse to use the litterbox as a breed if there is another cat. Sounds like your wife is making excuses.

Got a second adult himalayan after having our first for about 6 months. After a week of throwing some hissy fits the cats get along just great.. had no problems with the litter box either

Absolutely no truth in that at all. They are the same as other cats. I have a himie and do not have any litter box problems. They are the most lovable, gentle kitties. Getting one that has not been used for breeding may be your best bet if you are concerned about spraying. Ask the current owners if the cat is currently spraying.

Himalayan

I have a lilac point himalyan cat and have never had any problems with the urinating outside the litter even though we introduced a Persian when he turned 6. Himalayans are great cats as they have "dog like" characters. he greets me at the door when I come home from work, sees me out in the morning, comes when called, follows me everywhere in the house and even does a few tricks like "sit", "sit pretty" and "lie down". Super personalities even though they always look mad at you ! :-) Hope you got the cat for Christmas!

Hehe, your kitty must be smarter than mine. She is def 120% independent and does things on her terms only.
