Marley & Me
Hi all...
I'm not sure if anyone has already posted about this movie, but has anyone seen it? I want to read the book, as I'm sure it's even BETTER - but I seriously just bawled my eyes out watching it. I love my dog!!!!

I was glad to see that they had a little leaflet in the movie cover discussing how much WORK any dog is, and not to get one just because the movie came out.

I read the book...except the last chapter, I was getting too upset. I don't think I will ever finish the book 'cos I know how it ends
No desire to watch the movie. To date I have always been disappointed when I see a movie of a book I have read. |

I've never read the book and will not see the movie. I'd read an interview with the author and it broke my heart to pieces.
Just thinking about it makes me tear up. I can't bring myself to watch that or read it.

Hey, I got the book for Christmas and loved it....although it was very sad. It reminded so much of my dog Monty....with the aging, slowing down, etc. When I read the book, Monty was still alive and well but it was still heartbreaking to read because it sounded to soo familiar. Well, since reading the book I had been wanting to see the movie, I rented it last night and it was not a good idea! Monty died two weeks ago and it was way too soon for me to watch that movie. I knew the movie was going to be sad and I thought I could watch it but I really wasn't ready for it.
But it was a good movie and I liked it...book is a lot better tho. Just thought I would warn ya. I bawled through the whole movie and for atleast an hour afterwards. It's a good movie but if you know the feeling of losing a pet....it's a hard one to watch. |

It's true, it was a very hard movie to watch. I found it hard even though my dog is happy and healthy. It focuses on some really, really serious and emotional things about being a pet owner and even a parent. I'm really interested in reading the book though, I'll have to look for it.

I have a hard time watching these kind of movies. I recently saw one called "Yellow dog." It was a great movie, and thankfully the dog didn't die at the end, but man what he went through to get back home.

I read the book and saw the movie, loved both!
Yes, a tear jerker ending, but still, great. The older "Where the red fern grows" is another tear jerker (it had a remake that was okay) "The retrievers" is funny though it has a sad part. "A dog of flanders" the old 1950's one is best, it too had a remake but used a Bouvier. This 1950's one used the same yellow lab in "Old Yeller." Good plot, great actors, splendid scenery. I always enjoyed the MGM Lassie pictures, those are just splendid productions. "Jeffs collie" and it's subsequent "Lassie" with Jon Provost I also enjoy. Provost wrote a book which I am still reading, fascinating read about how Hollywood/TV production was done. I recently sent him an Email from his guestbook, he's just the nicest, most polite fellow! |
