Side Effects?

Hi,

I posted a little while ago that my dog had some incontinence problems.

I am just wondering some of the side effects. I started giving her estrogen pills a week ago and her genitals are very swollen and her nipples are extremely large and sensitive it seems.

Does this subside? I really don't want to be giving her this medication if she's going to be constantly in discomfort.

I also heard that giving a small amount of soy milk helps with this problem too.

Thanks

I believe that soy milk contains phytoestrogens, which act as estrogens. So adding the soy milk may just make the side effects worse. Have you talked to her vet about lowering the dosage of DES? If you're giving her soy milk as well, I'd discontinue that at least till you talk to the vet.

If it turns out that she doesn't tolerate the DES well, there are other options available.

I think I feel more comfortable just giving her soy milk for now and seeing if that helps.

She's quite a young dog, only 1 year and 10 months and otherwise very healthy.

i just don't want to introduce un-natural hormones.

She's on the lowest dose of hormones the vet perscribed. How long do you think it will take for body to normalize again after going off of the pills and just using the soy?
