I use 1-800-pet-meds. I've been very happy w/ the prices, products and service. Primarily because I simply don't have time to go to my vet's office to pick up flea & tick and heartworm stuff. it's the same brand names I'd get through my vet, a dollar or 2 cheaper, and free shipping. I've noticed they ship fast too - my orders always arrive in 2-3 days.

The heartworm meds did require the pet meds company to contact my vet... the way my vet handles it all is by fax. I provide the online company w/ my vet's contact info, they contact them, and my vet faxes back the Rx.

Your vet would have to write a prescription much like a doctor does or they may be willing to phone in a prescription, if he writes the prescription then you have to fax it in, most post offices have fax services, same with Staples stores for a small fee. When you order a presciption med that are dispensing fees, just like with human meds. now there is a downfall, if there is a problem with the medication such as it does not work like say heart worm meds or a dewormer, vaccinations you get some protection if you go thru a vet, as sometimes bad batches do occur, but if you go a pharmacy your up a creek.

For example if you get your heartworm meds from a vet and they do get heartworm your vet can go after the manufacturer to pay for treatment, if the heart worm med contains a dewormer and wormers are found after trteatment the cost of the med can be refunded and the batch # is reported to the manufacturer.
In the example where my greyhounds thyroid meds dosage changed, I could return the unused portion for a refund, and the credit was applied to the new dosage

You lose that protection when you order offline

This is PetPharm in Toronto, http://www.petpharm.org/can-can.htm

This is the big one in Australia http://www.pets-megastore.com.au/ind...4d33fe78cbb092 I strongly suggest reading the shipping info

Another in Australia http://www.vetstop.com/info/faq.htm#shipping

Edited to add
I looked on the 1800petmeds.com website and there is no info about shipping outside of the US, many US Pharmacies do not ship to Canada, the ones that do typically charge $20 extra to ship outside of the country

A list of different pharmacies http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Pets/Supplies/Health/

yes check the site. They have a policy of free shipping on orders over $39, one of the reasons I use them. but I'm not sure if they ship (or ship free) to Canada. You'd have to check. They have good customer service, just email or call them.

pet med's actually contacts my vet FOR me, and my vet faxes the Rx back to them. I didn't have to do anything more than provide my vet's name & phone number. With pet meds you create an online account, name/age/weight of all your pets, and your vet contact info. Just keep it up to date.

They also send me auto-refill emails, and usually have some sort of internet coupon deal going on.

I should note though, I only use the pet meds service for routine prevention, if I need a very specific med for a specific problem, I get THAT through my vet.

Yes, the products from Australia are fine. I've been ordering from there for the past 4 years without issue (from the same supplier). This supplier was the cheapest I found. The site is:

Per weight. I wish I remembered how much, but if you give me till Monday, I'll order my heartguard and tell you how much it was. (All I remember is it was nothing like the ebay sellers who charge more for shipping than the cost of what you bought...)

I can tell you as this thread reminded me to order some Advantage. I ordered 2 packages of 6 vials and the shipping was 6.75 (that may have been U.S dollars)
The shipping is reasonable. Unlike a lot of places, they seem to only charge what it really costs.

It seems to be the luck of the draw. Out of the 4 shipments that came to me, I only have had to pay duty/taxes once.

Satchelp, may I ask how much you paid for 2 boxes of 6 vials of the Advantage.
I have 3 cats and have started using only half a vial per cat,2 boxes would do me for the whole summer.
I believe I pay $65Can for a box a of 6,tax incl.

Hi Chico2,

I think I actually got more of a bargain than I thought as I indicated that I wanted to pay in Canadian dollars, but their system did not do the conversion from US dollars at checkout, so it appears I paid 70.61 Canadian including shipping. This was for the 'Large Dog' product. I thought they would send me an invoice for the difference, but they did not, and I just received an email from them saying my order had shipped.

I just pretended to do an order for 2 packages of Advantage (6 vials) for Large Cats (I assumed that was the one you use), and the total for both packages, including shipping is $64.91 US dollars. That's about $73.00 Canadian total, so it sounds like it's a substantial savings over what you have been paying.
** Note that they don't ship this product to the U.S.

www.americanameds.com honours vet prescriptions, and it can be pretty cheap.

ok, nevermind. I just know that a lot of human meds are cheaper on there, so I figured the pet ones would be too. Guess not. Then again, the main purpose of the site is for Americans to buy meds at Canadian prices, so it may only be beneficial for them.

Chico2,

You don't need a prescription to buy Advantage from this company, so no need to worry about your vet.

on line orders

I've used 1-800 PetMeds as well as PetCare RX several times and been very happy with both. This last order, however, from PetCare RX they refused to honor my Canadian vet's prescription... saying the rules have changed. So if you need a prescription, you need a US vet to OK it.
