I liked the Jay Leno joke about it... Something along the lines of: they cloned a dog. What a RELIEF!! Now we can remove dogs from the endangered species list.

The team collected mature eggs, removed its genetic material and replaced it with a nucleus from the ear skin of an Afghan hound.

The researchers said they aim to produce cloned dogs to study human and animal diseases, as well as the genetic differences between breeds.

First, they'll need to improve the efficiency of the technique. Of 123 embryo transfers, only two puppies were produced, they reported in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.
May they never perfect the technique.

It wasn't just the technique- didn't a few of the pups die really quickly?
