Crate/Kennel questions for first time flying with my dog

Hi Everyone, I am hoping someone out there can tell me where I can buy a crate/kennel for Tango. The airline, (westjet) says it can't be any larger than 36"L x 24"w x 26"h, but try as I might, I can't locate one with those dimmensions, even though I know there is one out there.

Everything I look at is 25w x 27h and Westjet says NO. I live in northern Alberta, but will be flying out of Edmonton.

Thanks

Have you checked with the Cargo division of the airline to see if they sell any crates this size?

Many years ago a neighbour moved across the country & after finally catching her cat I had to send her by air & bought the crate (obviously smaller than what you are looking for) directly from the airline.

Good luck

No such thing as a 26 inch high kennel

I am driving myself insane looking for an answer to a question on Westjet policy. It seems that Westjet has a strict 36x24x26 kennel size restriction. Yet there seems to be no one that sells anything close to this other than 27 inch high kennels. Anything smaller is too small. These kennels are designed for larger dogs, 50 pounds or so. By this logic, no one could fly a dog this size or larger as it would require a kennel beyond 26 inches in height. Yet clearly, people have flown larger dogs. I have seen postings on this forum of 80 pound dogs being flown. And I am careful to note that this is for the baggage area, NOT cargo.

So does Westjet allow variation beyond the 26 inch height? If not, where in the world does anyone find a 26 inch kennel?

Different carriers have different policies. Just because some one flew an 80lb dog doesn't mean it was with West Jet and it doesn't mean it was not cargo.

Are you able to fly with a different carrier?
