It definitely sounds like she has a serious cognitive problem. I would not hold it against her but I am surprised that the vet could not give anesthesia her to have x-rays or something done so you can get an idea what you are dealing with. At any rate if it is a brain tumor or something very serious you may have to have her put down. We had a bird operated on for a eye tumor and it came back as a brain tumor with a vengeance. It did give us some time to say goodbye.

Putting her down may seem cruel but after suffering a stroke and going up the long hill to recovery I know first hand how your own body can feel suddenly alien. At first I didn't think things would ever get better that I would read and write ever again. I did not realize how much resilience I possessed. Reading through blind spots for years they finally disappeared one day. It must be terrible for her to be trapped inside a sick mind please be kind to her. In her mind right now you could be some stranger attacking her. In my opinion brain injuries are the worst because when any part of your body is injured you have pain but the brain controls everything. When you lose your mental faculties you lose the essence of who you are.

It would have been good to have a diagnostic to be sure though.

You need to get her to another vet! One that has the skills to examine a hostile cat (any cat-only vets in your area?). I can't believe he gave her a death sentence without even examining her. Please don't euthanize her until you know more about what's going on.

There were no changes in behavior before she went out ? I assume that it/s a normal thing that she goes out occasionally

Many thanks for the replies..just wish animals could talk.. Yeah any injury takes long to heal. I have booked her in at another vet, only app is this sat.no vet will touch her till she is under anesthesia..only my husband is work so money is hard,we will find a way.. trying to keep out of her way at the moment and carryin a water bottle around the house..she now seems to be very scaried and keeps stairing at us and not comin near us,but only for food, very fuss wit food, only dry food.she was not scaried of anythin before, fine wit dogsppl,kids..hates other cats and will stand her ground, but no really fighting..She use to come when we wave at her.. Not anymore.lives inside but goes outside in the backyard for short times during the day..she doest leave our yard.and sometimes runs really fast in da house..very scaried of her now,and harder cos if she attacks us we wont b able to yell and stop her.. Just kills me even to lock her out of our roomand lots of loud meows, she use to voimit if she coundt b in our room...

I wonder if an animal tried to attack her and she was traumatized and acting out. I would not let a deaf pet outside on their own. I rescued a cat that was almost eaten alive, half her back was bitten off and the poor cat was traumatized for a long time. She has a good home now and will let her people pet her now.

Hi:

I'm glad to hear that your cat is getting back towards normal. Situations like this can be very trying at the best of times.

The situation seems to stem from outside the house, and I was wondering if there was something in the environment outside that gave her an extremely bad scare, for example, a dog, another cat, or even someone else. Cats are unlike pack animals, dogs, wolves, humans, and so on. When confronted with a traumatic experience they have only two courses of action, fight or flight, where pack animals will practice, one of three, fight, flight or submit. When the situation of this type occurs quite often the cats, unable to distinguish between friendly animal and enemy consequently, we human companion animals are mistaken as the aggressor and the cat will lash out at us. And especially with her handicap of not being able to hear. This could trigger a real traumatic experience for her even greater than normal.. I have had a similar occurrence with our little Abby. When a neighbour's cat came into her territory. The outcome was three days of her fighting with the other cats in the house and hissing at us when we approached her. It took about three days to come to an end. It's happened a couple of times since, but not as severe.

Something that might be of use to you in the future would be a Thundershirt or something designed similar. I am including a website for you to look at and get some ideas. Knowing cash is tight, I was thinking possibly you or someone you know might be able to make something similar that would work. (I used ours today and during a thunderstorm and it worked great) The next two websites are on clipnosis. This technique of controlling a cat when taking it to the vet will work on a lot of cats. And it's worth knowing if you're having to trim nails or give medicines. I introduced it to the vets here in town and they were skeptics until one day they had a cat that three of them couldn't handle. They tried the technique and were absolutely amazed at how easily they were able to do their examination.

I think barking dog makes a legitimate point. If she's to go out it might be wise for her to be supervised, knowing her condition.

this cat get a cold or a flu they can lose their sense of smell. I am thinking your cat would have a better sense of smell to make up for being deaf.
My sense of smell is a lot better than most people . but my hearing is horrible! I can really relate to your cat.
