Question,
When I got Gunner out of the shelter his poop seemed fine so I put him on Healthwise Lamb and Oatmeal Formula which is all natural and VERY nutrient dense plus added Taurine. He's been having the runs and I think I switched him to soon to the good food. What wiil stop the runs.

A number of factors combined can be causing Gunner's runny stool. Was he dewormed prior to leaving the shelter? Sometimes the medication can cause this. The stress of being relocated to a new environment, even though he's in a wonderful place, can also cause diarhea. And, of course, a sudden change of diet can be another factor. If you're concerned about his food, perhaps you can start a new thread in the "dog and cat food forum." There are many members here who are very knowledgable concerning holistic/high quality food (I'm not one of them, although I've followed their advice successfully).

I forgot to ask, was he fed one particular dog food at the shelter, or a variety of foods?

I'd recommend feeding Gunner some rice (slightly overcooked) and boiled chicken breast. Feed him small quantities at a time and within a day or two, begin adding the dog food you chose.

It should get better within a week, give him some time to adjust.

Got it ! By the way, I love your fireplace The runny poop is probably due to the change of food. Should be ok in a few days.

I agree that the diarhea situation will probably sort itself out in the next few days. You could try added some canned pumpkin (not pie filling) which is an excellent stool fixer-upper.

Gunner looks so handsome and very happy in his new forever home .

Just another thought. You mentioned you were at the beach a fair amount the last few days. If he drank a bunch of salt water then the diarhea is often a common side effect from that.

Gunner is adjusting very well, he is one spoiled pup, his training is going very well he is a very smart guy. I also think he is not 4 yrs old as the shelter vet said he looks and acts like a 1 1/2 yr old, he still has alot of puppy traits and is very clumsy sometimes and his teeth are very white and straight

I put GUNNER on a new food called Dr. Harvey's Canine Health the website is www.drharveys.com. It has 6 certified organic grains, 9 vegetables and 13 herbs in a whole food, plus multivitamin and mineral supplement all in one food. You cook the food like oatmeal and add your choice of protein (beef, chicken, fish, soy, lentils, etc. It's animal wellness magazine approved and it's the # 1 seller at our natural petfood store.GUNNER loves it and his stools are back to normal, check out the website
