any advice? when? is it okay to this is? are the instructions on the bag okay to follow? soil advice? I live in toronto (bloor west village area)...... year two of garden... i planted a lilac and a couple of hostas (which i think i still owe you lot some pics!) last year and both survived I'm inspired! k. |

Dahlias can be planted once the ground warms enough. Normally the long weekend in May for us. Dahlia corms need to be lifted every fall after the first heavy frost or you will lose them over the winter. Lily bulbs can be planted at the same time or basically any time during the year. Preferably fall. If you plant them before fall don't expect flowers the first year. Tulip, crocus, daffodil, narcissus should be planted in the fall, around end of Sept, first of Oct, to give them a chance to settle before cold weather sets in.

thanks soo much!
great to hear! will go ahead and plant both...... I am going to tackle a major overhaul of the garden this year. We grew grass and did a couple of small things last year, but i'm going to dig out some overgrown raspberry bushes (transplant them to another location) and then increase the space for the garden along the back of the yard.
Excited! will need to get my camera out this weekend and provide some before pics. last year, i cleaned up the front, planted some annuals, had a couple of planters lining the porch and got the nicest compliment from my neighbour... "it looks like you've added some sunshine to this house since you've moved in" |

Aww, that is nice to hear. It's always great to work in gardens. That's what I should be doing right now. No energy after the kitties though.
