Dog eats a pork rib one

My Westy ate a babyback rib bone last night whole. Will he digest it or pass it naturally or should I be concerned. He did this last night around 7:00 PM and has not thrown it up or passed it to date. What do you think?

was the bone raw or cooked? He should digest it just fine. Keep an eye on his stool though, if hes constipated at all. Or anything else that seems off about him.

Although this sounds like an accident, you should never feed cooked bones. Lots of us feed raw bone, but NEVER cooked bones.

Thanks for the input. The bone was out of pre-cooked ribs. I saw where a dog ate a sponge on this site and the owner was advised to give the dog vasalene protroleum jelly to help lubricate the passing. Is this advisible in this situation?

I've heard of white bread (ie Wonder "bread") being used to (hopefully) collect any shards and splinters but, that is normally done immediately after the bone has been ingested.

No, I really don't think Vaseline would help in this case.. I think the safest route would be to get xrays to see if it's lodged anywhere...
