Dog is hacking
Hello,
I have a 7 year old Aklaskan Malamute, whom I noticed has started making a hacking sound and then almost vomiting. She has done this 2 or 3 times. It is not a cough , it seems as though she has someting stuck in her throat. Otherwise she is in very good health, and has a good appetite. I am concerned , and I am would like to catch it early .. Please let me know . Thank You . ~Teresa |

Have you thought about taking your dog to the vet?

Could be all sorts of things....but kennel cough (aka bordatella) is highly contagious, and a dog with KC sounds exactly like they are choking on somthing, or got something stuck in the throat. It's passed on from dog to dog.
http://www.vetinfo.com/dkcough.html It is self limiting (usually goes away by itself, just like a cold for us) but your vet should see her, though. just in case.

I had a Husky and they are prone to hairballs with their thick coat so you may just want to get some hairball medicine and see if that helps.

Dog is hacking
Thanks for the replies, I did go to the link for Kennel Cough . I have had experience with this, I got a puppy from a rescue who had a very bad case of Kennel Cough .. and yes it does sound like that . Although that was a year ago, and my dogs have been in contact with no other dogs. I have not noticed the hacking at all last night or today . So it may be possible it was just a cold, or even a hairball. Thanks again ..
