Exclamation Need help with abandoned newborns!

Hi all!!!
My husband works for a towing company, and found 5 abandoned kittens today which he brought home. Its not the first time he's done this as the pound is full of strays, but the ones he brought home cant be any more than 3 days old
I bought the KMR replacement milk, have my trusty eye droppers....but they move around SO much its hard to feed them and I'm afraid of hurting them!! I know the first week is critical to newborns, and I want to do this right, so can any one offer advice on how I can settle them to feed them, and how much formula they should be given???
Thanks SO much!

First of all thank you and your hubby for rescuing these poor babies and welcome to pets.ca

I have no experience in caring for kittens that young. We do have a couple of members here that are very experienced but unfortuneatly they are in bed by now. Is there a 24 hr vet in your area that you can call for advice?

If not, there is some info here ....

Is he positive they were abandoned? Is it possible momma cat had just gone to find herself some food? Please have him go back and see if he can see the mom around. She will be frantic looking for her babies.

This site gives you step by step instructions and how much babies should get fed. It is more concise than I could hope to be...

I find that a 1ml syringe is easier than an eye dropper, you should be able to get them from your pharmacy, just have the pharmacist remove the needle so it can be disposed of properly. For feeding amounts here is a website (look to the bottom of page) that may assist you:

Unless hubby has watched for a day to see if momma has abandonned them then she could be out hunting. If there is a lot of activity around, then she may be too afraid to come back to her babies until it is quiet.

Thanks!

Thank you for all the advice!!

My hubby listened to these kittens cry for 2 days before deciding to take them home.

Feedings are getting "alittle" easier.....if I could get them to stay still for 5 seconds! They are wiggly little critters!!!
