Diamond vs Sid
Hmmm Seems Diamond deceided that Sid is her new toy she chases him no matter how often I use the leave it command & go get her she has forgoten it.
only to Sid tho. Everything else she listens Sid got his claw stuck in her face near the eye yeturday & today somewhat same thng, in her jowel, Sid tolerates her I think sometimes does want to play but she can be rough. This usually happens after Diamond has her morning poop. She is HYPER for a bit before she settles down to nap. even after playing outside for almost 2 hours. I dont want either hurt anyone have ideas? Last edited by Diamondsmum; January 30th, 2009 at 01:33 PM. |

This article has good tips on just this issue: How can I get my dog to leave my cat alone?
Might be a good idea to enforce zero-tolerance for cat-chasing, even if that means tethering Diamond to you until she learns not to.

Thanks sugarcatmom
I had filled a squirt bottle with water & was hoping that would work. I also was considering the penny can but Diamond is sooo sentitive to noises & I have bad aim. Id scare her bad & prolly hit her with it. See They are kinda friends Last edited by Diamondsmum; January 30th, 2009 at 06:16 PM. |

The penny in the can trick is NOT meant to be tossed at the offender You hold the can where she cannot see it - so she doesn't know it's you, then when she does what she shouldn't you shake the can out of her sight - it's just supposed to startle her to stop what she's doing. The other method of the penny in the can is for teaching them not to jump on furniture, the can is placed on the edge, it then falls over/off startling them when they try to get up.

Actually I already made progress using the squirt bottle. Sid hides under desk Diamond sees him & her tail starts to wag..So I see what she is gonna do, I said (harsh tone) Leave it & squirted her side. her expression was like WTH?? I called her to come to me and for that she got good girl & pets.
She tried again .. same thing got her in the side & same command. again shocked expression. but she has since left Sid alone. That penny method the link says to throw it near them not at them but I think that would terrify her. |

I didn't read the link, but the basic idea of the penny can is to startle them to stop what they're doing so they associate the noise to the "bad behaviour" rather than associating a scary noise with you. That's why it should be shaken where they don't see you do it. Alot of dogs will figure out where the noise is coming from fairly quickly once they realise the noise doesn't hurt them, so it can't be used to frequently or for too long.

The squirt bottle has been my best friend with Riley quite a few times .
