High quality cat food manufacturers

Not sure if this should be in the Opinions and Rants section or Pet Food section because it is a rant about manufacturers, but here goes:

So most of you know that my senior himalayan, Puddles, is getting her food changed to a high quality canned with low phosphorus and calcium so I have been doing a lot of research on cat food.

Two manufacturers, Champion Foods which produces Orijen and Natura which produces EVO, claim to have the pets best interest in mind. If they did, then why doesn't Orijen have a canned line for cats and why does Innova only manufacture dry for senior and calorie reduced formula? Both of these should definitely be canned!

I am done now, thanks for listening.

As far as Champion not making a canned food, it probably has to do with not having the facilities. It takes an entirely different set of specialized equipment, which is why many companies actually subcontract out the making of canned to a third party, as in the case of Menu Foods. Champion may have decided it's not worth the hassle, that they're making plenty of money with their dry food line.

Sugarcatmom is right....you need a completely different facility to manufacture canned food. Menu Foods had the contract to manufacture a lot of canned foods from many different brands. Although Natura Pet Foods wasn't one of them, I read that they are going to build their own canning plant (they already have there own kibble plant). Also, I heard that Champion Pet Foods is hoping to have a canned product soon but don't know if they are building their own facility.

Didn't think of having the facilities. I thought they made canned dog food though?

I actually lived about 5KM from their facilities in Morinville when I lived in the Edmonton area a few years back.
