Question Introducing new kitten to our dog

Does anyone have advice on introducing our new kitten to our older dog? We let the kitty get comfortable with our house first and mostly are keeping her in a large crate on the kitchen table with the dog inside to hopefully get them used to each others scents and sounds. Then we alternate with kitty free to roam and dog outside, or dog inside and kitty in the bedroom. We have tried a few closer introductions. So far mostly we are just seeing a very curious, excited dog ( not aggressive) and a tiny scared kitty that hisses and tries to scratch. This is only day 3 since we brought her homebut I am getting frustrated I really want this to work out. Are we doing things too quickly?

Any advice is very much appreciated
