Bichon with chronic eye problems... common?
Hello Dog gurus.
My parents have a 2 year old Bichon Friese, who regularly gets... either eye infections or the vet thinks maybe alergic reactions (but if so, to ???). Her one eye, sometimes both, gets all weepy and squinty like it painful... and the vet has seen little pink/red bumps inside her lower eyelids. It swells a bit and lasts for a few days, during which time she often has 1-2 white gobs floating on her actual eyeball. (That may be just fluff or other irritant, but its not what seems to chiefly bother her...) From my description, has anyone else had this or know of it? Are we in for years of antibiotic and/or antihistimine drops? Is this common to Bichons? Any help/thoughts are appreciated!

This tends to be common in poodles and bichons etc. It could be an eye infection, or as you suspect, allergies.
Your vet is going to be the best person to rule things out and diagnose her properly - because it's her eyes you don't want to self diagnose and start treating her without knowing exactly what it is. If it is allergies, it may be something you will need to treat occasionally long term - it may only need treatment seasonly, and if it is infection, it should clear up after treatment. Continue working with your vet closely to figure out the problem, and when in doubt get a second opinion.
