Unhappy Komondor Not Feeling Well

Our Komondor Jovi is 4 years old and 130 lbs. He's the sweetest dog that I have ever seen unless someone is around the house who shouldn't be then he can be very loud. He loves to be with his family. He's most content when he knows where everyone is - we're his flock.

Lately he's worrying me because he is having a difficult time, especially getting up. His legs are shaky and he chews on all four paws. I have checked his paws and they seem fine, and I try to keep them clean for him. He does have an appt at the vet next week and his particular breed are known to have hip problems because of their size, but I have my office in our loft and I'm home with him all day so I can see the difference in him. We do walk him, but it's getting to the point where I have a hard time getting him to do anything and he is well trained. If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it.

I would try to get him to a vet sooner than next week if you can.

I would try for an earlier appointment as well. 4 yrs of age is too young for him to be showing those symptoms--especially if they manifested suddenly!

I hope Jovi is feeling better soon, Bev

Welcome to the board.

The paw-chewing (since you don't see any irritation there), combined with shakiness, makes me wonder if there's not something going on with the nerves in his back; nerve damage can cause pain/tingling down to the feet and a lot of dogs will chew them to try to alleviate it. I agree that a visit sooner rather than later would be wise...

I agree with everyone here, I would get a vet appt asap. If it is a spinal problem, the sooner he is looked at the better.
