what to do with fire alarm testing?

Ok...I got a notice stating that they will be testing and upgrading our apartment fire alarm system from 8AM to 4PM on March 1 and 2. That means that the fire alarms will be running on and off ALL day!!

The fire alarm system in my building is the worst I have ever heard! It's like someone is blowing an air horn at the same time as a thousand bees buzzing!! There are two speakers for it in our apartment, one outside the bedrooms (where Odin spends his days) and one in the living room. When it sounds, there really is no where in our apartment to go that lessens the sound. I am really worried that this is going to freak Odin out, especially if I am not here.

Any suggestions? Would it be bad to cover up the speaker with a pillow or something to block the sound?? Or should we just brave it and get him used to it??

Is there any way he could go to work with you or you could keep him at a friends house? Or maybe even he could stay at the keenel (at the vet) until you are off work and than you could pick him up. Or maybe you could come down with the flu and stay home with him. LOL That idea sounds good to me.

Good idea Princess, its always nice to have a day off work, just think Raingirl, you and Odin cna sleep in late, maybe take a walk, watch a movie, snuggle up and eat some chocolates ( not Odin).... the possibilities are endless

Actually, I start a new job some time this week, and I've been off for all last week after leaving my other job (I needed a vacation!!!) so I already will be home!! However, I have been going out for a few hours each day so he doesn't get used to me being home, and risk getting Separation Anxiety.

I thought about going to a friends house, but there's no where I can think of that I could take him, as everyone is at work. I would love to take him to my sister's house, but her husband is allergic.

Maybe I could just drive around with him all day!! (j/k)

What about a doggie day care for the day? He could meet and play with other pups, get more socialized, and be away from the dreaded fire alarm.

You know I've been feeling kinda sick myself and I just happen to have a box of Lindt chocolates just waiting to be opened, so Princess and Raingirl, c'mon over, I'll make tea and grab some movies, of course bring your babies

We have fire alarm tests every so often here. They don’t go on all day, but they usually need to enter your apartment for couple of minutes to check smoke detectors .
I always make sure I’m home when that happens. Just don’t feel comfortable with some strange people being alone with my animals. Sometimes I’ll take the dogs to work, but mostly I try to be there.

I was originally thinking doggy day care as well, but I still haven't found one in my area.

Mastiff, I'll see how he does today, and maybe we can consider that for tomorrow. Right now, the alarms are random...anywhere from a few seconds apart, to a few minutes, and sometimes they are short, sometimes long. Odin is stickin to me like glue. basically, they are going apartment to apartment and sticking a heat thing to the detector, and the alarms go off in the whole building...
