Possible Allergy, Wolfcub good?

Ok, currently I'm feeding Canidae. My pup is 3months old. Looks great but hes been itching real bad. He was treated for parasites to rule that out and the vet now feels it may be a food allergy and advised us to switch foods to a protien source he hasnt had. What makes it hard is hes still a pup and a large breed at that. (bullmastiff). So finding a good low protien food is hard.

Looking at the Solid gold wolfcub I think it would work, would you all agree?

I would like to, and wanted to switch to raw, but with Chicken likley the cause, that limits me. So what I may do is get him on to the wolfcub and then if the itching goes away, slowly introduce the raw. Sound like a good idea?

The other foods I was looking at was the Wellness Duck or Venison allergy formulas (Simple Food Solutions), but they're not really a puppy food. The wolfcub may be the better bet, even though the wellness has 21% protien which is nicer then the 26% the wolfcub has. Uggg, the stress!

Hi you do not need to feed puppy food. Mastiffs do much better on an adult food. Puppy food makes them grow to quickly and there bones and joint do not get strong enough and eventually may have hip and knee problems. You want your dog to grow slowly because hip and knee problems are very expensive and painful for your dog. Slow growth in these guys is key to help them live long and healthy lives. I have had a dog with allergies and fed venison based foods which worked great. I think raw is the way to go but I feed kibble for convience and lack of freezer space. Speak to Technodoll about raw feeding she is very well versed in it and will be more than willing to give you info about it. Wolfclub is a really good food. But pass on the puppy stuff these big guys do not need it. Plus it makes them fat. Good luck and lets have some pics of that cute puppy

OMG, he's gorgeous...

He'll do very well on Raw or adult kibble is fine too. I do not feed the xlarge breed pups here puppy food after 12-14 weeks as they are quite often already growing too fast. My own guy has a lot of problems with diet so we are working on slowly switching him over to RAW as well. The theory with my guy is that he should be better able to process whole proteins instead of altered proteins from kibble. We tested by giving him a food that has the protein already completely broken down and there was a big improvement so the next step is switching to RAW.

For your raw feeding, I'd consult other very large breed raw feeders. You have to be careful about the amount of calcium and things you feed so that your dog doesn't grow too quickly.

Too cute I want one. There is not quite enough dog hair and drool on my clothes, furniture, walls, ceilings etc. You could check out this site it is geared towards English Mastiffs but you can find the threads about feeding raw and what supplements you want to add. It would probably help you out. Really nice and very well versed in the breed. And they do have many of the same great qualities.

what a beautie! Welcome to raw!!!! You deffinately won't be limited in food options.. think of all the meats out there (even ignoring chicken): beef, pork, goat, lamb, venison, bison, duck, rabbit, fish.... the list goes on and on.
Raw fed puppies grow more slowly, which is great for him, you're going to love it once you get a hang of it, just make sure you find some good butchers willing to give you good prices.
