Taking a Doggie Temp

I do not have a rectal thermometer so I just used my electronic ear one on Guinness and it said 102.9 now rectal would be higher right? So if he has 102.9 in his ear what would his temp be rectally? I read the threads on rectal and it is normal up to 102.7?...he just is not himself today and I am worried as I let him jump in the lake this weekend?
Any thoughts?

no idea about the thermometer, not thinkin you want him sittin down with it in. Does his tummy feel warm to the touch, the wet cold nose isn't really true, or accurate.

According to How to take your dogs temp they mention the normal ear temp is "between 100.0 degrees and 103.0 degrees Fahrenheit", you need to place the tip of the thermometer "deep into the horizontal ear canal to obtain an accurate reading."

any other symptoms?

Just wasn't himself....not eating much...even when I threw his fav distroyed basketball he would just walk to it...then he would just walk back into the house and lie down on his bed . He does seem a bit better this morning, I swear he almost seems a bit depressed...we spent 5 days at the cottage so maybe just upset not to be there???...

Could he just be stiff and sore from all the new exercise he got? If he doesn't get to swim a lot, his muscles may be sore I know hazel's always are if we go swimming these days.

He certainly could have picked something up from the water or just around the property--ours pick up stuff all the time just from the backyard. Can you get a stool sample in to the vet for analysis? He might have picked up something like giardia
