Toy Poodle 15 years old coughing????

Our Toy Poodle who is 15 years old is coughing and having problems with his rear legs (walking, supporting himself while going to the bathroom and not walking all that great), his cough is only intermittently ( not all day and all night), any ideas????????? Please help!

Could be kennel cough ... has he been close to other dogs lately ?

At 15, it could be a lot of things. Have you had him to the vet yet?

One thing a cough could indicate is heartworm--has he been on preventive for it? But it could also be anything from mild kennel cough to cancer. Only a vet will be able to tell you for sure!

The problem with his rear legs could be something as straightforward as arthritis, but again, the only way you'll know for sure is if he's seen by a vet. If it is arthritis, there are meds that the vet can prescribe that might give your boy some relief.

Coughing can also be a sign of congestive heart failure, so for sure I'd be getting your pup to a vet pronto for a diagnosis.

No he has not been near any dogs with Kennel Cough. I am waiting for vet test results! But thank you!
