Our bear encounter

We encountered a black bear yesterday on a walk in the mountains west of our home . . . . but Abby and Keeper missed the whole thing!!

We were looking at waterfalls again, walking along the Sheep River, and Abby and Keeper were on leash and pulling me along when I happened to look back and saw a smaller black bear had emerged from the bush only about 50 feet behind us.

I kept up a slow pace and glanced over my shoulder a couple of times. The bear turned towards us, raised his nose a bit . . . . and the next time I looked back he had disappeared into the bush on the other side of the trail.

And Abby and Keeper just kept chugging along, oblivious to it all.

Good thing as we were quite alone.

A few minutes before that encounter, I took these pictures, for those interested:

Abby looks for a rock to be tossed (this is a great new screensaver!!)

Abby pokes her head over a bank to see where I am.

And, on Friday, we were walking along Chain Lakes in southwestern Alberta. In all the miles we walked, we saw only one lone fisherman on the bank and one lone canoe.

Rick, where you live truly looks like the most beautiful place on earth. You are so fortunate to have such incredible surroundings.

Those dogs are far luckier than most people. Sigh.
