Need good vibes for Nanook

Our precious little monster had a seizure tonight
It's been over 9 weeks since the last one. We were hoping and praying he was over them. I'll be taking him in to see the vet in the next few days. We're just worried

He's on both pheno and pred, which I thought would prevent them
Anyway, it's gonna be another long night. We would appreciate any and all good vibes and 's.

Thank you,

Robyn and DH

Well, we gave him 2 vials of valium rectally which made him so hyper. It usually knocks him out for awhile. The vet said give him his pheno on top of it, so we did. He's sleeping, but almost looks like he's having mini-seizures every once in awhile so I wake him up and make him look at me

We had hoped they were as well. I'm hoping it's just a matter of increasing the pred again for awhile He's nearing the end of the 2 weeks of only being on 10mg daily. They may bump him back to 20 for another couple of weeks.

Thank you all so much
I don't know what I would do without the wonderful support here. It's so good to know others are thinking of you and sending so many good vibes, thoughts and prayers!

We had an uneventful night
He was loaded up with valium and pheno, which I'm sure helped! We go see the specialist today and I'm thinking she will increase his pred again, which is really bad for his immune system and his tummy
She didn't mention putting on a different steroid with less side effects in the past, so she may opt for that at this point. Since we lowered him to 10mg a day he has been doing so well! He plays a lot, has a ton of energy and is not nearly as bloated. He's been so puppy-like. I hope that continues

I'm so sorry to hear this. I too had hoped he was well on the way to a happy, healthy life with no more seizures. You are all in my thoughts and prayers that the visit to the specialist goes well and that sweet Nanook is able to overcome this. You all deserve a break. and a hug!

Evening all! Thank you again for all the support, I truly appreciate all of you!

We saw the specialist today. She thinks Nanook's meningitis is in relapse
She boosted his pred back up to 20mg daily and added another immuno-suppresant, azathioprine. It's very hard on the liver and kidneys so they did blood work to make sure he is able to handle it, then we have to get his blood tested again in 2 weeks. She wants to wean him off the pheno, but not until the meningitis is back in remission. She said he can't remain on high doses of pred. His poor little body just can't take it, so we're praying this second med will work and allow the pred to be weaned down again.

On the happier side, he has gained 18 lbs back in the last 2 weeks!! I was so happy when we weighed him. He's now up to 77 lbs. But, as we suspected, he will most likely not get any bigger. He quit growing at 4 1/2 to 5 months and they are sure he won't grow anymore. So instead of a giant Mal, he will be our mini Mal
He's not very tall, but he's long bodied, so that's where most of the weight is. His bloating is due to the pred, so not much we can do about it at this point
The specialist said she disagrees with the other vet that said he has myositis. She's quite positive the loss of muscle mass is just due to the pred, nothing more. When I told her the other vet wanted to put him under and take a muscle biopsy and take a tissue sample down to the skull, she was horrified . That's what she gets for taking holidays and not being here... how dare she!

So, I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens

Glad to hear he's gained some weight! Sorry to hear about the relapse, though

I hope the pred takes care of the meningitis this time around!

I'm sorry to hear you went through it too. Did she have epilepsy? You said had... did she outgrow them?

Thank you for the kind words

Wouldn't it be nice if vets could agree on one disease? How heartbreaking this is for you. From what I just read about meningitis dogs may have to stay on the steroids for up to six months. In some cases low dosages for life! But if it will keep Nookie with you and give him good quality of life it is worth it.
If it's any consolation to you my Keesha (toy poodle) has been having seizures since she turned a year old. Sometimes she would have as many as four or five a week (rarely). Other times she would have one and not have another for four or five months. The older she gets the less frequent they are. She is now 16. Her seizures are food and stress related. Over the years I watch what she eats. Beef is the worse. She can have a tiny amount but if she has too much she has a seizure. Turkey and chicken do the same to her. No tests could be done to determine why these foods set her off. Nothing came back as her being allergic to anything. Maybe just a little too much protein?
The stress is harder to control as sometimes just someone new coming into the house would set her off.
Stay strong. I know it's hard. We are here for you and sending lots of for the Nookie monster.

Well I hope Nookie Monster gets better now and that the meds settle him down health wise. It's so sad when our babies are sick and nothing we do resolves it. I know in your loving care he's going to do fine.
