Thinking of switching to raw

Hi,

I'm thinking of switching my cats to raw. They are on wellness canned right now, but their teeth are not too good. I want to go with the whole prey model if possible.

Is there anyone in the Ottawa area who feeds raw? I'd like to find suppliers of whole carcasses if possible. Any advice on where to find whole chickens, quails, rabbits and the like? My grocery store sells rabbit and quail, but no organs with those things.

Is beef okay for a cat? All three of my cats love it, but I'm not sure it's good for them.

Scroll down to the Ontario section at this link to get some ideas for meat sources: http://lepusreg.tripod.com/NRS.html

If they love it and don't have any kind of reaction to it (can be a common allergen), then I see no problem with feeding beef. Bison is another good one to try (although you'll have to modify the "whole prey" thing when feeding stuff like that, obviously), and as a bonus, bison aren't part of the evil factory farming industry like most cattle are.

When we adopted our kittens they were also on Wellness tins. They are now on a 80-90% raw with 10% Wellness diet.
There's nothing wrong with beef as long as your cat isn't allergic to it - both my kittens are currently having ground beef daily along with chicken necks, hearts and liver.
I don't know if Manitoba has a T&T supermarket (Asian supermarket) but your best place to try for organs is an Asian butchery .
Independent butchers are also a great place for carcasses, if they cut their own chicken breast meat, they'll usually have lots of carcasses for sale - I know mine does and it's really cheap like .99cents a pound. Speak to your butcher about keeping meats and bones for you! they're usually happy to do it.
