Just want to say hello

Hi There,
I am new here, I am originately from thailand and moved to vancouver bc 6 years ago. I grew up in a family that loved dogs(we used to have 5 dogs at once!) My best buddie passed away 2 years ago, she lived for 18 years! I was quite heart broken when she passed away...2 years gone by and think I am ready for a new dog...I 've been thinking about getting a puppy since I just move into an apartment (we are renting) which is a block away from my work.(I work full time and my husband works from home sometme)
I am in a pickle because I;m not sure which breed I should to get... My husband never had a dog before and he prefers a fluffy dog like a soft coated wheaton terrier or a westie, but I love a medium to big size dog like a yellow lab or weimeraner. I managed to convince my husband to get a lab... but the problem is our aprtment only allows dogs that weigh less than 20 kgs. So I still don't know what to do.
I also have a question about how did you take care your new puppie when you have a full time job? When I decide which breed to get, I;mplanning to take a week or 2 off to spend with my puppy.. but what should I do when I go back to work???
Any comment or suggestion would help...
Thank you everyone!

Welcome. It's great that your thinking of getting a new dog. If you haven't considered it maybe you could consider a rescue dog instead of a puppy, that could relieve you of house training worries. Although some rescue dogs come with some baggage not all do.
Anyway research the breeds before you decide. Being an experienced dog owner you probably know what breeds you like. Apartment living can bring it's own challenges and maybe your dream breed doesn't work in an apartment. I know I didn't think a Shih Tzu would appeal to me but after doing my research Shih Tzu's were a perfect match to our household, not just to me.

Good luck in your dog search.
