Exclamation euthanasia --IV Catheter or just injection?

My 18 year old cat has cancer, a golf ball sized mass in his abdomen, irregularities in liver and digestive tract (confirmed by ultrasound). He will probably need to be p.t.s. sometime in the next few weeks.

My question is this: Should I ask for an IV catheter so that there is no chance of missing of the vein (causing pain) or should I have the vet do the injections directly into the leg? What is the most painless way?

First to you and your cat.

Personaly I would go for the I.V catheter. Sadly I have been present for many euthanasia's from my time working in a clinic and I think a catheter is best. From my experiences anyway.

I'm sorry to hear your cat has cancer

Enjoy the time you have left & spoil your baby with all his favorites things

Many vets will automatically put in an IV for cats because their veins are quite small to begin with and it's less traumatic for the cat & owner should something happen using the injection alone route.

I feel awful for your heartache, aries .

I've only known vets to use a catheter as well.
