Unhappy RIP Jesse

note: I wrote this on September 24, 2006. :sad: Since then, I've been in a state of denial. But alas, here's what I had to say about my favorite dog, Jesse:

Jesse passed away last night.

I'm a total wreck, still. I couldn't even go to work this evening, and luckily Sammy understood and offered her condolences. I'm glad that Miles was literally there for me when the news smacked me in the face the second we walked through the front door; but I'm even more glad that I had my family.

It's amazing how much more quiet the house is, now that he's gone. And it's excruciatingly painful to imagine that Jesse may not have known how much he meant to me. Afterall, I had those obnoxious chihuahuas who were always stealing attention and love from me.

Jesse is who influenced my love for animals. He had such a warm heart and unique personality. I cannot remember life before Jesse came along, as he's been in my family since he was six months old (making that over fourteen years). When I was young I used to ride on his back and I remember taking him to the beach, weekly, for his free run. He would chase seagulls, but he'd never harm a fly.

I'm still in a state of denial. I can't bring myself to accept that he's really gone. We're making a collage of his photos to frame and hang in the family room. We miss him more than words can say.

Josh B was over when mom and Kat rushed Jesse to the pet ER to be put down. Together Ian and Josh made cards for Jesse. "I wish you lived longer." The other, my favorite: "We love you so much that we're giving you a hug from the world. RIP Jesse. " Below there's a childish drawing of the earth, and above the earth curtseys a rainbow with Jesse drawn rollerskating ontop of it, wings, halo, and all.

An hour before the incident, Milkweed (the monarch caterpillar Ian had been raising) split from his cocoon and dried his elegant wings in preparation for flight. Milkweed was to dry for two hours before being released, and coincidentally, that was when Jesse passed. In a sense, the monarch's flight and Jesse's soul were entwined. The delicate butterfly fluttered into the heavens; Jesse's essence accentuating the monarch's composition, and flaunting fond, colorful memories into our minds and hearts.

Beautiful thoughts, beautifully expressed.

Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.
