Puppy Teething??
I am the new owner of a 6 month old smooth chow chow (no papers !). I am just wondering how long puppies go through teething??
Thai is well behaved, house trained, crate trained, and a loving dog... BUT... he loves to chew on everything!! I have gone to the store and bought him a CHILLY BONE, which is a stuffed toy that you soak in water andplace in the freezer, like a teething ring for children, and he loves that... I think he is still teething.. is that possible?? |

Yes, permanent molars erupt between 4 - 7 months. The Chilly Bone is great for teething and soothing to his gums as well.

I wish I had found one of those! I had to scramble through the house trying to find things I could put in the freezer that Diamond wouldn't destroy. Oh so hard to do.
Did you manage to find any of his baby teeth? I salvaged 4 of them. 2 molars and 2 canines. |

Your dog may chew for a long time to come, I have a 5 yr old Rotti who still enjoys his chews!!! I found that a rope toy soaked in chicken or beef broth, then frozen keeps him busy!

Puppies teething
I bought Kongs, pigs ears, femur bones, ham bones, galileo bones, ropes, beef hooves, a car tire, a rhino, nylabones, a hard rubber bone, knuckle bones, etc. and my dogs are 12 months old and 14 months old and they still try to knaw on the couch or baseboards. Their favourite chew toy is anything stuffed with peanut butter, whether it's a Kong or a femur bone.

That was good there...Chew King one up on pink feather duster. Hey, Thai, let me tell you that Stella (10 months, going on 11) is still chewing, but her favorite now is the cushions from the love seat.

Make sure your pup has lots of chew toys as they get bored of the same toy easily. Give him some new ones and take old ones away and hide them for a while until he's bored of the new ones. Then bring out the old toys and hide some of the new ones. Mix them up a little. You can only discipline him when you have caught him in the act of chewing on obstacles that don't belong to him. Time and patience might help you out as well. Also make sure he is getting enough exercise as then he will not feel the need to take his built up aggression an any object he pleases! |
