Red face Vinnie at the vets today

Today Vinnie went for his check-up,he was sooo good and adorable.
The bad news is,he has to have 2 teeth pulled:sadne is really almost gone and must be very painful for him, poor baby.
With our investments dwindling to nothing,I was worried what the estimated bill would be,but although it's a lot of money for us,I think it was not too bad, what do you think??
I got a high and a low..Low was $670+tax,high $819+tax depending on how it goes.
Thats extracting 2 teeth,teeth-scraping,blood-works and antibiotics+whatever else is needed.
My old vet would have charge over $1.000..

Ouch!!! I am so sorry to hear that chico. Poor baby. I don't know what prices are good or not good. Just hope that Vinnie feels better after it's all done.

14+,Vinnie is not there yet,I had to warm up hubby to the bill first
But I agree,my poor beautiful baby, but I am sure he'll be fine...at least the vet did not even try to push diet-food on him.
He weighs a whopping 18,8lbs
He's just got to lose weight somehow..

Youch! Poor Vinnie! That amount scares the crap out of me. I have to take Czari to get her teeth cleaned and now I'm hoping she doesn't have any teeth that need to be pulled. Ack!

I hope he hasn't been in a lot of pain.

Chico, it's sounded to me like he's been on a strict eating routine no? Geez, I can't imagine what you can do further. Vlad is my biggest guy at 17, and he gets 4-5 tablespoons of Innova a day, and some treats in between. He only eats in the morning and when I get home, around 5:00. It sounds to me like you likely feed Vinnie that same amount over 3 feedings a day right?

Chico, I have never owned a kitty but geezzzzzz...that sounds expensive! Not sure what it would cost for a doggie tooth extraction.never had to do that.

Hope Vinnie is ok...

Ouch! My vet charges about $300 for cleaning and for the bloodwork for an older dog. We haven't had any extractions since Puss-Puss had dental problems about 5-6 years ago. I thought it was high, but now I think I'll be thankful. But what can you do? If the dental work isn't done, the bacteria and inflammation can cause harm to other organs. Poor Vinnie! He'll feel so much better afterwards. We didn't think Puss-Puss felt bad. After her mouth healed, she was so frisky again that I knew she must have been hurting. Cats don't always show their discomfort.

Aw, poor Vinnie! And poor chico! Pricey, but as glasslass says, he'll feel so much better once it's done.

for a quick recovery when he finally has the procedure done!

I paid about the low end there fof both Smoke and Buddy last year, so seems about right to me. Sorry to hear he's got to have some teeth out, but if they're bad, it's best to get em out! Buddy needs another cleaning already... I'm a bit miffed about that, but I get mine done every 5 months so I can't really talk! Just wish theirs was covered too!

Poor Vinnie, but he'll be happy when it's over. My lab Halo had a tooth extraction, cleaning and four little lumps removed this past summer and the bill was just over $800. Hurt me more than her I think. Good luck to Vinnie when it's time.

The estimates sounds reasonable. Sounds like Vinnie has same that Duffy had Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesion. Duffy tells me Vinnie'll feel much better without those teeth

My vet now is actually much more reasonable than my old vet and there is not much I can do,it has to be done.
It's a long time since any of my cats have had any surgery done,Chico and Rocky has had none since neutering,I am not a worrier, but this is my angel Vinnie,a BIG bundle of love:sad:
I just have to wait and see how much tax we have to pay this year, taxes are being done now, should know by Monday, then I'll make the surgery app after,we suspect we have to pay $2.000-$4.000,hopefully "just" $2.000
Dahmer and Glasslass,Inothing will go wrong with my Vinnie either,it's only 2 very small teeth.

Awwww poor Vinnie. This meltdown has hurt so many people financially. I really don't have any idea how much vets charge for dental work, I have been very fortunate with my cats that they have had very good teeth (Puddles 13 years, still has perfect teeth).

L4H,Rocky and Chico at 13/12yrs old also have pretty good teeth,I think, just like with people some have good teeth and others don't.
As for money, yes, our retirement investments are almost gone, but they will recover,it will take years though, years we might not have,so our kids will be the ones benefitting.

Poor Vinnie.

The last time we had dental work done was about 6 or 7 years ago for one of our sibes. He had a cleaning and a toothe pulled as well as the blood work, etc and it cost us over $600 back then.

So I would say you are getting a good deal.

Hope all goes well.

Rainbow,I kind of thought so too, although it is a lot of money for us right now,it's not unreasonable for the work that has to be done.
For a complete check-up,with shots and nail-clipping he only charges $87,I like this vet very much,he listens and I don't feel I am being robbed.
With my concerns about Rockys last bloodtest and his terrible growling,I suggested that next time I'll hold him and try to keep him calm and the vet was surprised I was willing to do that.

Has hubby recovered yet chico? It's tough for a lot of people at this time. I hear about it every day I am at work.
I am sure Vinnie will be great after the teeth get pulled. I can't figure why he isn't losing weight when you are only feeding a small amount. I guess he is meant to be a big guy.

14+,yes,hubby is ok now,I don't know if you mean from the flu,or the shock from the estimate
I was actually surprised at his reaction, not bad at all,we just hope our tax-bill will "only"be $2.000 not double that, then we'll be ok.

I meant his shock. But I am glad you are both feeling better. That flu takes a lot out of people!

Years ago, before many of you were bornmy cat Sammy,a black Angora had to be put down, because what had started as an infected tooth, spread all through him,too late to do anything but pts.
Cleaning kitty-teeth was just not done,so I know how important this is.

for the taxes

for Vinnies' dental - make sure they will have him on IV fluids & have a blood pressure monitor on him during the surgery.

Growler,I will ask the vet,but I have a feeling he'll take all precautions,he just seems to be that kind of vet.
I am worried about Vinnie though,of course....looking in to his beautiful trusting face, knowing what I'm making him go through:sad:
But I know it has to be done.
I am going ahead today to make the appt for his blood-test,don't want to delay anymore.

Last night I found a lump on the inside of Vinnies back leg:sad:I am not panicking, but very worried.
I see a pattern, very similar to my Peppi()also white, overweight, bad teeth,he too had a couple of teeth pulled,Peppi was much older than 7yr old Vinnie though.
Peppi had a small lump on his tummy, was told it was fatty...but it grew and it was cancer:sad:
Will see what the vet says on tuesday

Chico, maybe he was just playing rough with one of the others. At least you have a vet's appointment on Tuesday, so you can get him checked on that as well. I hope it's nothing.

My first reaction when I read your latest post was to say, "Poor Vinnie"! However, my second clicked in a nano-second later with "Poor Chico"! You're the one with the anxiety until you know what it is. Think positive! We all get lumps & bumps as we age and hopefully it's nothing more. I'm ing for the best diagnosis!
