It's all good. Sometimes it's scary to find out what plants are on the list. I gave up and banned them from my house. At least until the kitties are older.

Aww poor Sweet Pea I guess she was just looking for a warm spot to curl up & didn't know it was that hot. (When my sister was little, she put her hands ontop of my uncle's wood stove.ouch.)

I can vouch for Arnica, this was used for Duffy after her dental extractions & she never showed any signs of pain I can also vouch for Chamomilla being used for pain relief.

It's a bit deceiving to have aloe on the poisonous plants lists. For one, these lists don't tell you what part of the plant is toxic. They also don't tell you how much of the plant a cat would have to eat in order to feel any toxic effects. And lastly, they don't tell you what those toxic effects are. When it comes to aloe vera, the "toxic" part is a very thin layer right underneath the rind. A cat would need to eat awful lot of entire leaves (not likely) for it to have an affect, and even then they'd only get some gastrointestinal upset. Many cat caregivers use aloe on their cats (both internally and externally) without any problems. It's great for constipation.

When buying aloe vera gel from a store to use on cats, look for whole leaf gel preserved without sodium benzoate (which is a bigger problem for cats than aloe ever will be, and yet it's used in a number of veterinary products). A good brand that is often recommended is Lily of the Desert.

So ya, aloe would be great to use on Sweetpea's burnt tootsies, if she'll let you touch them (maybe while she's sleeping?). Otherwise if it causes her too much stress it might be best to leave them alone.

I am going to get some aloe for her today.

Jasper is really one of a kind, I have never seen a cat so attached to others. He would never be happy being an only cat.

He really wants in to see his new girl

Thank you Chris.

SCM: This is what I was able to find:

Lily of the desert aloe vera gel perseved with Potassium Sorbate

Traumavet by homeovet to be added to water or food: apis, anica, byonia, hamonels, hypersum, ledum palustre, millefoum, rhus tox, ruta, alcohol.

May have some the spelling wrong, the printing is sooooo tiny.

I hope Sweet Pea is feeling better today.

I should write down that aloe and keep it handy. Let us know if you are able to get it on her.

I apologize SCM. I guess the list I am taking my info from needs to be updated or something. Good to know.

Yup, that's the one. Hopefully Sweetpea is okay with it too!

Sounds good. It contains hypericum, which is good for treating nerve pain (which is what a burn would be). I hope Sweetpea feels better soon!!!

Oh gosh, no apology needed!! The toxic plant lists can really be misleading though. For instance, they frequently list honeysuckle as being toxic to cats, but it's only the berries of a very particular type of honeysuckle vine (Japanese) that could potentially be a problem, and again, only if a cat eats enough of them. Show me a cat that's going to chow down on a big pile of very sour berries (okay, maybe Bunduk would). Otherwise, the wood from a honeysuckle bush is actually great for cats, it's kinda like catnip (although they don't eat the wood, they just lick it and rub all over it).

No, the list I have says ALL PARTS of the aloe is poisonous causing diarrhea and red urine. Not deadly but not something I want my guys to go through. I will check to see how outdated it really is.

Nope, that would definitely be wrong.

Thanks SCM, I will give her some. I bought some pet wrap to try to wrap her paws after I put the aloe vera gel on. I'll get some pics.

Checked her pads and she has to be in quite a bit of pain, poor girl.

Some people with colitis find it soothing to their colon, but others finds it gives them diarrhea, maybe it is the same with cats .

Maybe. I don't know. The list is an older one. I have looked on newer lists too and have seen aloe on it so figured it was the same. It's from 1980. Oh well, I guess with all else, everything changes.

Well the bandage thing didn't go over well. Good thing I got a pic while she was still on DH lap, cause the bandage was off within seconds once she jumped down:

You can see the bandage under her paw in the second pic

How is she doing today? Were you able to at least keep her from walking after you got the aloe on her?

I remember when I first moved in here, Oksana got a cut on her leg and they bandaged her leg. It lasted all of half an hour. But I do have pictures of her with her pink bandage.

I have been able to somewhat put aloe vera on her pads with a q-tip, but she ends up licking at least one paw . She is no longer on Metacam as she is able to walk without a limp.

At least you're able to put some on. Any little bit counts I think.

Sweet Pea is doing fine. Her pads are a little crusty, but not problems. Thank you for asking, Chris.

She had her first outside run in a week yesterday and she was so excited. Jasper showed her his catnip stash but wouldn't let her have any until he was done .

I guess we know where Sweet Pea stands when it comes to Jasper's catnip.
