Re: the Persian that was found, UPDATE Post #8
This is in regards to the Persian that was found. You can read about it here;
http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=57975 I've had this cat since Saturday and he was using the litter box faithfully, peeing & pooping, until yesterday. When I came home from work, I noticed a puddle outside the litter box. There was poop in the box and apparently the cat peed on the floor. I thought that maybe he overshot the box, but later that night, he pooped in the box and then went into the cat carrier and peed. This morning, another poop in the box, but no pee. I always scoop the poop out right away. Today when I got home, there were 2 poops in the box and a puddle of pee in front of the cat carrier. So far, there has been nothing since. I've checked the pee each time and there is no smell or discoloration to it. The litter I use is Maxi Scoop for multicats. Also he is secluded in my room with his own litter box, which was cleaned with fresh litter. He is still eating, drinking and being playful. I had him groomed on Tuesday and was wondering if he might have been stressed out from it. Any advice or guesses as to why he is starting to pee outside the box? I always think UTI when that happens. I know you said you were taking him to the vet....has he been yet?

He has an appointment for Monday, but if need be, I will bring him in sooner.
I'm not very familiar with UTI's, but don't they strain and pee just a little at a time because it hurts them to pee? |

Re: the Persian
I just concluded cat sitting a kitty for 2 weeks while his parents went on vacation and he arrived with 2 litter boxes since he won't poop in the same one he uses to pee, maybe this kitty has the same idea, hope its not a uti but rather behavioural, good luck at vets.

This is what is strange, he did poop and pee in the same box for 4 days.
I was going to get him an extra box today, but I was waiting for an important phone call. I will definately pick one up tomorrow. |

I think stress can cause a UTI which may be from all he has been through lately.
I don't know alot about this but there are lots of members here that do. One of them should log on sometime tonight to give you more advice. |

Normally a UTI does include blood in urine and straining to urinate constantly, but I think a quick urine sample taken to the vet for analysis is in order.
Some cats like to pee in one litter box, poo in the other so getting a second litter box wouldn't hurt and it seems like he is trying to find another place to pee. Try having one covered and the other uncovered to see if he has a preference. Kitties can be so finicky, lol.

LOL Kathryn!!!!! GOOD ONE!!!!
Love4himies, no changes were made and I didn't get a chance to get the other box. I think maybe he was just stressed out from being at the groomers, but so far he is still going in the litter box. Rainbow, I'm surprised that you've never heard "pee biscuits" before. Have you heard this one? Poop = Tootsie rolls. Last edited by rg_girlca; November 8th, 2008 at 07:45 PM. |

I have a middle-aged tortie female that always pees in the bathtub when she either gets stressed or has a UTI. That's how she lets me know it's time to get either more attention or some medical treatment. She uses the box for the solids, though - never has accidents that way. Hasn't happened for quite awhile so I guess she must be feeling both happy and healthy.
