Limits of cats per house hold

hi, I live in Verdun, Montreal.
I have 8 cats. all of them live indoors only. All of them are sterelised.
I rescued some of them in-extremis when they were kittens in the alley. Two of them i rescued when they were about 6 months old. I love my cats very much, they are well taken care of, healthy and happy.

My problem is the following... this very nasty person is menacing of calling the SPCA to come and get my cats and take them away from me! This person dosn't like me and want's to cause trouble by trying to have my cats taken away from me... they are my babies, like children to me...

I looked at the municipal by-laws for my bourough and it seems to me that i am not in violation of any law stated in there, even if i have 8 cats.

I do not have the link for the borough web site or the specific place it states the by-law, but i googled it and got a copy of it.

This is what i came up with

Ville de Montreal
arrondissement de Verdun
REGLEMENT RCA11 210001

I only have the French version
the by-law came in effect may 12th 2011

I was wondering if anyone here had any previous problems with the number of cats they have at home?
how you managed the situation?
and most of all, if it's true that the city can come and take my cats away
from me?
Does anyone know a lawyer firm that would specialise in these cases?
What can the city do, if anything, concerning my having 8 cats in my apartment?
My apartment is clean and my cats are well treated, they do not disturb anyone and do not cause damage to the premises.

There is only this ill intentioned person who does not like me trying to cause trouble because of my cats... my cats cause no trouble to him or any of the tennants in my 6plex.

Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

A very good friend of mine works at this shelter. I can ask her what you should do in this case. The shelter is actually very reasonable and they have much bigger fish to fry.
However it is the municipality that has more control on the actions to be taken.

I am little confused. You say that your town does not have a limit restriction on pets in your home, but then are concerned what would happen. If you dont have a limit restriction, then there is nothing to worry about.

Here in my city, we have a limit of three pets per household. If a household exceeds that limit, we can fine you and will have to find homes for the other animals. Sorry i forgot to mention that I work as an Animal Services Officer.

I just looked at the Verdun borough website and it seems as long as all your cats are registered, you should be fine.

thanks

Actually, when reading the municipality by-law, it does indeed state that no one can keep more than one cat who is not sterilised... and the by-law per say does not state a limit.
I was told by neighbors, friends etc that the limit is 2 cats.

This past summer, people from the city were going door to door with forms to fill out to register the cats and dogs, i was not home at the time, and got that news from a neighbor...

I was thinking of calling the municipality anonymously from a payphone and asking them information about their by laws, and to tell me which by law states the limit if any.

Wow, it is so civilized in Verdun. Where I come from they are NOT dog friendly at all!!!! The way I read it, your cats are fine. Hope the trouble makers finds something more constructive to do with their time.
