allergic dog
Hello! I am glad to have found this forum!
I have a blue heeler/collie cross, he is three & a half years old! Very good dog, but seems this spring to be suffering from an allergy! Everyone in this city seems to have had bad reactions this year to pollen, etc. He sneezes a lot & rubs his eyes on the furniture as if they are itchy! There is a thin line of ?? coming almost all the time from each eye. I wonder if anyone can suggest something i can use to make him more comfortable ...is there something i could use to bathe his eyes? Thanks in advance for any help! Happy Canada Day! |

Welcome to the board, deefurontario.
Are you sure it's allergies and not an eye condition of some sort? Make sure you have your dog evaluated by a vet before starting any meds. Having said that, it does sound like it could be mild allergies. On particularly pollen-y days, a sterile saline flush can be soothing to the eyes if he'll let you use it. Sterile saline is a pretty safe bet even if it turns out there's something other than allergies going on with the eyes... Our Ember has itchy chin and watery eyes. We discussed options with the vet and got some dosing information and have had some good success treating his allergies with Benadryl. We know when Ember's eyes are bothering him because he actually sits still for the saline--if he runs away we know his allergies aren't bothering him that much on that particular day.
