A First-Aid kit for Maggie

Please, could you offer suggestions in putting together a first-aid kit for my cat.
We are at least forty minutes from the nearest clinic and I would like to have some emergency supplies on hand just in case.
A thermometer, are there special ones for pets? Anything else you could think of based on the distance we must travel for care.
Thanks, Laurie and Maggie

That's an excellent idea and something everyone should consider no matter how close they are to a vet clinic. Here are some links on this topic that I recommend reading and bookmarking in case of an emergency:

There's a first-aid kit list in the first link that should help. I would also add some slippery elm bark powder for cases of diarrhea or constipation, and some colloidal silver to treat wounds or infections (it's antibacterial and anti-fungal). Also a couple jars of plain meat baby food (without any onions) can be useful to have on hand in case of inappetance or for administering meds or slippery elm.

You don't need a specific animal thermometer, a people one is fine.

To be honest, I have no idea about cats so I can't offer any other suggestions.
But what a great idea! I think I'll definitely do the same for my puppies at the cottage - the closest anything is almost an hour away.

Dear Maggieand me -- what a terrific question, the answer to which is helpful to all of us. I'd add that for those of us who live in heavily populated urban areas we should include directions to and phone numbers for primary and secondary emergency clinics. For example, I'm in Connecticut. While my first choice would be the Shelton emergency clinic (a western route), traffic often might interfere with my getting there. So I have directions available both to the emergency clinic in New Haven (a southern route) and in Rocky Hill (a northern route).

Thanks Sugarcatmom
Many items on the list we already have in our first-aid kit. I will gather the rest the next time I go to Lethbridge.
I received my copy of the Cat Bible from Amazon yesterday as you had recommended it on another thread. A good read for this cold stormy day.
Happy Valentines Day!
