Maybe he's not big enough, they want him to look like a Ram... Or a "deucicorn"? Nice, noble name.

Those look like ear-cropping bandages. When they crop a poochs ears, they tie up the bandages like that so the ears heal standing up, and that way they'll stay up when the bandages come off.

I thought you were suppose to have them cropped when they were a few days old. I thought it was hard on them when they are that big?

even though when they are done at the proper age, 7-12 weeks I believe (at least for boxers anyway), many times they have to be taped for months after, depending on the dog and how quickly the ears "set".

this guys ears are just taped, so they were probably cropped at the appropriate age.

I do not understand why mess with their ears? I think they look fine the way they are. Lets let someone cut their ears because we think it will make them look better. Poor puppy. I thought this was an older dog the way he looked.

I had the choice to crop my dogs ears and I chose not to-personally I don't believe in it. However, breeders who show their dogs (of certain breeds) do it because it is in the breed standard and when the dog is judged it must be as close to the breed standard as possible.

The dog looks older cuz he's a Great Dane but I believe he's only 7-8 months old if I'm remembering right..

I think your thinking of tail docking, that should never been done on a dog older than 8 weeks, preferably earlier. Ear cropping is a bit different.
I personally like cropped ears mainly just on Dobies though. I think danes and other dogs look cute with floppy ears.

Jackie, I think you are right I am thinking of the tail thing. LOL My bad. Blonde moment. LOL

Oh I am not saying that they do not look cute just that whay is the reason becuase people prefer to see them with their ears and tails like that. If God wanted them to stand up than he would have made them that way that is just my view on it. Do not want to upset anyone just my point on the matter. I think they are cute no matter what but I think that is something that does not have to be done so why do it. If it was medical that is one thing but I think in most cases it is becuase they want them to look a certain way.

Like I said on another thread a while ago-- I think any person who has had their own ears pinned would never do this to a dog...

How about we ask the person who owns the dog before we start making comments? I am not just pointing out Princess04's comment and wAggies but they were ones that standed out. As I mentioned in another post, his ears were done at 6 weeks of age, while he was still at the breeder. I am watching this dog while his shoulder is healing. He is a show dog and his one ear is not standing right yet so his ears are still taped until this occurs. In some great danes it can actually take well over a year for the ears to stand perfectly. He is now 9 months old. If you would like you can take a look at the pictures forum, it is under new addition, you will see him with and without the tape. It also explains about the tape as well. I knew if I posted pictures of him with tape on his ears there would be a problem, but I thought people would ask before they commented or at least take a look at other posts for explainations. I think I may just take the pictures down to save my fingers from falling off with having to explain the tape over and over again.

Your right I should have asked you what was going on first. I am sorry for that. This is something I am very concerned about in dogs but it does not justify making a statement and not checking with you first. Sometime I guess I need to learn to keep my mouth shut. I PM you but I wanted to post here as well and let you know that I was out of line and should have thought before I spoke. Sorry again to you and anyone else reading this post.

We need to read first before we judge,As anyone who knows about breed standards this is the norm for a dog being showed. The people that need to be told or judge are the ones that make up the rules for the breed standard for these shows and have the standard changed.

Mommyof2bullies i think the pup looks great
