Unhappy Cat accidentally ate Dogs Rimadyl!!

Hello
First I'll say, the cat is already at the veternarian.

My Rottweiler takes Rimadyl everyday. Usually I give the dogs their pills in the morning, but this morning my husband was trying to help out. He left the pills sitting on the kitchen counter, and sure enough, Monkey (the cat) got ahold of the Rimadyl and ate it. I wanted to be safe, so i called the vet and they had me take her in right away. Her stomach was pumped and they filled her with charcoal and she has to stay there for at least 24 hours.

Does anyone have any experience with this or have any information about how serious this can be?

I'm very worried about my kitty. she's only three years old. any information would be helpful.

thanks,
mandy

I have no experience with Rimadyl just wanted to send you & Monkey some

The vet will probably want to do a blood panel & urinalysis to be sure there are no lasting effects from the ingestion. for taking her in so quick

Thank you Growler!

I talked to the vet, he said Monkey was acting "crabby" which was a good thing. she was being active and not lethargic, so thats good. I'm still worried, ofcourse, until she comes home.

I'm glad Monkey is feeling feisty! That must've been scary!

Who would have thought that a cat would actually eat a pill on its own!?

So does the vet think Monkey can come home tomorrow?

Yeah!!! Monkey is home, we just have to keep an eye on her the next few days. She's been sticking pretty close to me all day, poor thing.
I think she's going to be okay, just a real scare! i was very worried what the vet would say this morning.

One good thing, they had to give her a bath before she could come home (guess she mostly hid in the litter box-yuck!).

thanks again,
Mandy

Good to hear Monkey is home & doing well

Did the vet want follow up blood & urine tests done?

for a full recovery & no more mischief!

thank you!!!! Monkey slept litteraly on top of me last night. I don't think she liked being at the vets over night at all! she seems to be doing good.

the vet did not request more blood work or urine, just said to keep an eye on her for vomiting (ha!), not eating, or yellowing of the whites of her eyes. so far so good, she ate her dinner last night, and eyes are white...as for the vomiting, well, i haven't witnessed any yet, but cats and vomit just kindof go together, don't they?

thanks again for the encouragement. I doubt Monkey is done causing mischief, though. she is a three year old cat...plenty of mischief to come! she wouldn't be my kitty if she wasn't a little mischivious!

I'm late on this, but I'm glad it had a good outcome. Sounds like your quick thinking and taking her in to the vet quickly helped her recover so well.

Just proves cats are a mystery. When you want them to take a pill, they fight you all the way
