Rabbit Breeders?

Anybody know of any rabbit breeders around Southern Ontario? Near Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo?

Why do you want a rabbit breeder? If you are wanting a pet rabbit why not adopt one from a rescue near by!

I'm actually helping a friend look and she said she's called all the shelters and nobody has any bunnies. Nobody! It's kind of strange.....no bunnies anywhere. She originally looked at pet stores and none of the pet stores have any either. I told her she should try breeders in the area instead of buying from a pet store, but we've only come up with one and they have none available right now.

DO NOT LET HER BUY ANYTHING FROM A PET STORE!!!!!

They are all Back Yard Breeders, do not support them. Go to www.petfinder.com and type in your location and rabbit and see what she can find in her town or around that location. Good luck and let us know.

No, no, no....I always try to get people to avoid pet stores. I myself adopted my kitty from Pet Patrol. I fully believe in animal rescue.

Gee, rabbits are dumped all the time. We just helped rehome 5 of them, and 4 were beautiful Mini Lops! There are 71 homeless rabbits in Ontario, all on Petfinder.

You can find MANY rabbits here:

Quinte HS

and here:
Rabbit Rescue Inc.

and here;
Stony creed HS

Yes, apparently the Humane Society in town has a few posted on the site. I'll tell her to try there.

I agree with trying to adopt one, but really where do the unsold or unwanted ones from the pet store end up? I don't think that by buying an animal at a pet store that you are supporting BYB's, you are simply giving an animal a good home.

The unsold ones are the pet stores problem, and so are the unwanted ones. They have to deal with it if nobody else wants them, and this discorages them from getting new stock in. If they can't get rid of the old ones, they might get the message. Rabbits multiply very fast, so the end up in shelters very quickly, too.
