Puppy Biting
Anyone have any good suggestions to stop a puppy from biting? Sophie is 6months old, and loves to bite hands. She stops when you say no, but after a minute will do it again. Her biting is not hard, but it could be on a childs hands.
Thanks

Spray her with a vinegar/water solution from a spray bottle and back that up with a firm "no". Then change whatever activity you were doing at the time. You must be consistent and never spank.

Biting
My little Boo-Boo used to bite, which I had to correct immediatley, since she's a Pit-Bull. When she would nip I would hold her snout shut until she gave in (let out a big sigh, closed her eyes, or rolled over on her belly to submit to me)
What this taught her was that I'm in charge, and no matter how much fighting she tried, she could not beat me, or get me to let go. You need to show her who the "ALPHA" is in your home. I don't suspect she'll fight as hard as my Boo did, but I learned that technique from my best friend who works for a very respected Vet & also for Peel Police training dogs. When she has given in, the next step is the hardest, ignore her. Plain & simple, NEVER hit an animal, they live for your love & affection, and the worst thing you could ever do is ignore her, she will quickly learn that if she does something Mommy doesn't like, Mommy won't give her Cuddles. Let me know if you want to give this a try, and if you do, how it works for you. Like I said, I've trained my Pit-bulls with this method, and My girlfriend her 2 St. Bernards. Best of luck!!

my little shih is just like that too. i tried everything! he loves pants and feet, he thinks they are little toys and nips at them.
we sprayed vinegar and water, but my pup loved it!! we sprayed bitter apple and he loved it too so that didnt work we tried yelping and growing no bite, but that didnt work trainer said to push against her nose and that didnt work cause she thought it was play someone else recommended alpha roll and that didnt work cause she loves it and would nip at us and immediately roll onto his back we give him something to play with and it works for a bit, but he comes back to nip our pants and feet. timeout room didnt work either cause he would just sit there so the only thing that was our last resort, which we are trying now, which seems to be working is just to ignore him completely. we dont look, touch, play, when he nips. when he knows we ignore him, he sits and grumbles why why ignore him. then he tries to nip again, and still we ignore him. then he just plays on his own with his toys. |

I have to agree, ignore the pup and the biting will stop. dogs are like kids, they don't like to be ignore and they want attention.
let us know how the ignoring is working out for you. GOOD LUCK!!
