PurinaCare Pet Insurance? Anyone have any experiences?

I've carried the PurinaCare® Premium pet insurance on my dog now for a year and I've never made a claim. As we're looking at a rather expensive surgery I've been in contact with them to make sure that all my "i's were dotted and all my "t's were crossed — now I'm getting a little afraid. I have three claims in now for all the testing plus our "annual" checkup and even the first one hasn't been okay'd yet. When I called they kind of gave be the run-around I am getting concerned that they're going to find some sort of loop hole to not pay out. I've been through ALL the fine print and according to that, they don't have any reason to not honor the policy and yet I cannot get any answers out of anyone.

Has anyone dealt w/ PurinaCare?

Hi, MyDog, and welcome to the forum. I did a forum search and was unable to find any information from anybody who has used PurinaCare Pet Insurance so don't know if anyone here has ever used it. Maybe someone else will come on with some information for you.

I did a general search as well, didn't find much. They are very new (2008). Good reviews on petinsurancereview.com. Give them another call, try to get a date when you can expect the decision regarding your first claim.

SamIam - Thank you for the link. I wish I'd known about that site last year before I bought my Purina policy.

Update: I did get the results back of my first claim late yesterday and it was paid out according to the insurance plan (as it exists now), but it was pretty small. The other two claims that are in a little bigger in terms of dollars.

I'm still not getting a good feeling about this. Stay tuned.

I had a hard time finding out much credible info about PurinaCare. It’s so easy to get trapped into an insurance plan that’s just out to deprive you of your money. Is there Petassure in Canada? I signed up there and it already saved me loads on vet bills. They’re cheaper than insurance and will accept any pet!

Not finding info about PurinaCare is partly a good thing. If many of their clients had trouble with them, I would expect bad reports to be fairly easy to find.

Don't think so. Petassure looks tempting, for those to whom it is available, but their math doesn't make sense to me. They pay out about half of what they receive in premiums but the average family gets back twice what they pay. How does their money quadruple??? I'm all for investments where my money is likely to quadruple, but ....

Never heard of Purina Plan...but these days everyone has their own brand of insurance for everything.

I have 5 pets insured with Securican....not the best either because in spite of their touchy feely ads.....they are still providing "property insurance" because that what pets still are.
They have paid out many VERY large claims for 1 of my guys...so I see myself ahead of the game.
