Dog wants to lick bare skin

My 8 year old Australian Sheperd wants to continuosly lick mine and my wifes bare legs or feet. Is this a diet deficiency? He also has started drooling when he sees someone eating.

I am glad he's not drooling when he sees your feet
I'm sorry, did not mean to make light of your problem.
Drooling at the dinnertable is probably not uncommon, but I'll let the dog owners answer that.
I just thought it was funny that he has a foot-fetish

If these are new behaviors, you might want to take your dog to the vet.

My dog likes doing that to. I've often thought maybe its the salty taste they like or its comforting to them. Don't know but never really worried about it that much. My girl drools when I'm preparing her food but as LavenderRott said if this is a new behavior for her maybe get her checked out. You'll feel better about it. And if it is something please let us know cause its probably fairly common in dogs.

I read somewhere (don't remember where) that licking brings comfort to dogs and cats as it reminds them of when they were nursing from their mothers. Seems as logical an explanation as any. I've never had a dog or cat that didn't lick.

Obsessive licking

I have a toy poodle that is forever wanting to lick any exposed skin- Usually your face or ears but a toe will also do. She has done this for years and aside from having clean toes ears and face I have no let it bother me. I usually stop her after a couple of licks and she will sit in my lap and go to sleep. If you pick her up her tougue starts lapping in anticipation of a skin contact. Vet said it was normal for many dogs and did go back to a comfort zone thing for the dog.
It doesn't bother me so we live with it. No great explanation.

My dog loves to kiss and give hugs. With the smaller kids, he'll actualy jump up, put his "arms" around their neck, and lick them on the face. Oh well, its probably a common problem in Poodles.

My cat loves to lick the lotion off of my feet and legs. I am always telling him to go away when I am putting it on because I do not want it to make him sick. But, right when I get out of the shower and put it on here he comes. He never misses a time either you think he would figure it out after a few nos but I guess not! LOL

One of my Japanese Chins will do the same after I get out of the shower. Maybe he's telling that he wants another bath or he wants to play in the water.
