Roxy has battle scars!

So Roxy got into a scrap with my mother-in-laws terrier. It wasnt a bad fight but terriers are scrappy, and when I was petting her later I noticed a 1 " gash above her eye. We took her to the vet and he suggested to put stitches in as it wasnt something that would heal well without them. She went in this morning to have it done. My stomach was in a knot all morning and I called as soon as I could to check up on her. I hate putting my dogs under anesthetic for anything! She went through fine, she has a cone, antibiotics, and we have to keep an eye on the wound. I'm sure she'll look special with half of her head shaved and a cone! I'm so relieved she's ok!

Aww, poor Roxy . Do the dogs normally not get along?

Hoping she heals asap although I don't think a wee scar is going to affect her pretty face .

Special? I like that. Good luck with her healing. I had a cattle dog bitch once take a lightning fast snap at another of my girls and it slit the forehead open too. Very soft skin there.

They normally do get along but it was a bad situation. We were at my sisters place so Tonka ( mil dog) and roxy were staked out on the lawn ( she doesnt have a fully fenced yard.) I was playing ball with Nelly, my Lab bernese mix, and Tonka was getting all exciting running and growling when Nelly went for the ball. So, Roxy got in there and tried to get him to calm down, and a fight resulted due to the increased tension... dogs! What can you say!

Poor Roxy, I'm sure she'll heal fast though. We'll need some pics to determine how "special" she looks I think... (Any excuse for pics huh...)

Lol... I'll post some before and after when we pick her up tonight! I laughed when I heard that they had to but her completely under to stitch her up, apparently they tried just with sedation but she was less than co-operative! Doesn't surprise me, you should hear her when you accidentally step on her paw!

Poor Roxy! Vet did a good job stitching it up, though, sweetie--you'll be right as rain and just as beautiful as ever in a couple of weeks!

Is she trying to scratch at it at all, TulipRoxy, or has she so far avoided having to wear the Dreaded Elizabethan Collar?

Yeah he did a great job of re-cutting, debriding and stitching it into a neat wound. Plus he didn't shave half her head like I was expecting!

Oh yes, she has had the cone on and she tried to scratch it a little bit ago...and looked confused and flopped down when it didn't work!

Oh dear, big wound for a little Sheltie. Big cuddle for her. She was lucky it wasn't the eye injured. Speaking of which, her eyes are quite striking, aren't they? You know how Shelties and Collies get Collie Eye Anomaly(CEA)? Well, someone in Scandinavia mentioned that if you take a photo of a sheltie using the flash on a digital camera, those with CEA shine pink, but those that are clear of CEA shine a golden brown. I'm sure that everyone who had their shelties tested in the past by a canine ophthalmologist started taking photo's to make sure that was right, and yes, for mine it was. It does NOT work with blue merle's eyes and I imagine sable merles either, but then they can be hard to read by conventional means too.
Watch that terrier with Roxy in future, I'd add 'the nasty little brute', but I know what terriers are like. My childhood Fox Terrier took on a GSD just because he liked a fight, not a good idea as his side was ripped open by the Shepherd.
