Guy Weadick Rodeo/Chucks

Saw some rodeo and chuckwagon racing in High River, Alberta last night . . . . .

Some impressions:

A hard ride for this cowboy:

Below, a rough end for this cowboy:

Below, team calf ropers close in on the quarry . . . . you'll notice the calf has head gear on, like a helmet.

Below, Miss Rodeo Okotoks reacts to the raw pickup lines directed her way by the rodeo clown. She is an expert horsewoman herding calves, used in calf roping, out of the infield.

Below, a close finish in chuckwagons

Below, rushing around the barrels and then out of the infield is always an intense business . . . . chuckwagon racing as a competitive business started in this arena in High River in about 1948 I think. These are the same guys who will be competing for big money at the Calgary Stampede in a few weeks.

Below, coming down to the finish . . . .

Obviously rodeo and chuckwagon racing has many animal rights issues. In fact, in the picture above, last year, I have a picture of a chuckwagon horse dropping dead of a heart attack in that very spot. There are official Humane Society observors at all of these events.

Great action shots Rick especially considering the speed at which the events happen

Amazing shots as usual! You capture the feel of everything that goes on at a rodeo. I had the priveledge of watching those chuckwagon races way back when. Was very fortunate not to see any injuries, human or animal.
Wonderful pics. Thanks very much for sharing them.
