what should i give with meds

beau is starting on clavamox and clarithromycin tomorrow. after 10 days he will be on baytril and the clavamox for 20 days. most of the meds can cause naseau and diarreah so wondering if i should be giving anything else to be proactive.

Probiotics would be helpful--they'll help shield him from the diarrhea that can result when the antibiotics unbalance the organisms in his intestine. Ask the vet whether you can give the meds with meals, too--that helps buffer the tummy.

Sounds like some heavy duty meds What's going on with poor Beau? Hope he's better soon!

You can get probiotics in capsule form at a health food store (usually found refrigerated).

Beau gets better really, really soon .

Please consider the probiotics. I would go with the suggestions already listed, but I have used the Probios products with success as well. These basically help replenish the good bacterial in the stomach and gut that the antibiotics tend to kill off causing digestive upsets.

These antibiotics can be hard on the dog's system. I know that my dog totally lost her appetite on the Baytril (given for hepatitis--she was a very sick girl).

I was told that giving probiotics and antibiotics at the same time were counter-productive. Help, can someone please set me straight?

I've just gotten off 21 days of clavamox with my 5 month old GSD. I gave it immediately after meals, which seemed to work well other than her stools being a little softer. GSD's are notorious for sensitive tummys.

Would it help give Beau the two meds seperately?

I wouldn't give probiotics at the exact same time as the antibiotics, but rather stagger them at different times during the day.
