R.I.P. my sweet, beautiful Thorin

I'm posting now, because I know I won't be able to later. Our beautiful boy has finally succumbed to the cancer. No matter how much you try and prepare yourself for this day, you can't. Well, at least I can't. I'm completely devastated. He was so special to me, my soul dog.

Beautiful Thorin. Mommy will miss you more than you could ever know

My precious boy, trembling in fear.
You shiver and shake as I hold you near.
Not knowing the warmth that love can provide,
You run from me, you cower and hide.

"Just give him some time and a box with a bed"
"He'll come around soon" is what the experts had said.
We waited and watched, we gave you your space.
After more than a month, you were still out of place.

One night as I lay, struggling to sleep,
Unable to breath, self-pity ran deep.
I go to your box and lift you out...
Determined to show you what loves all about.

I whisper "I love you" as you squirm and fight.
I won't give up... you'll be mine tonight.
You finally give in and drift off to sleep,
Content in my lap, not making a peep.

When morning comes, I open my eyes,
And find you still sleeping... to my surprise.
Your little eyes open and look up at me.
You lay there calmly, just happy to "be".

From that moment on, you've been my sweet boy.
No longer scared, cowering and coy.
You've made me laugh when my tears would flow.
The comfort you've brought me, you'll never know.

And now it's you who struggles to sleep.
You cough and pant as I stroke you and weep.
With sadness and tears, I'll hold you this night...
And whisper "I love you" as we help end your fight.

OH Rguerts I am so very sad to read that the time has come to say goodbye to your sweet sweet Thorin. I know there is nothing anyone can say to ease the pain. Chum and I send all our love to you and yours in this most difficult time. You went above and beyond to do all that was humanly possible to give Thorin the best you had to give :dog :

I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble free,
where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful rainbow and on the other side
were meadows rich and beautiful lush and green and wide!

And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
were every sort of animal, as healthy as could be!
My own tired failing body was fresh and healed and new
and I wanted to go run with them but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you to tell you I'm alright,
that this place is truly wonderful - then a bright glow pierced the night.

'Twas the glow of many candles shining bright and strong and bold
and I knew then that it held your love in it's brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be
we are still connected by a cord that no eye can ever see.
So whenever you need to find me we're never far apart
if you look beyond the rainbow and listen with your heart.

I'm so sorry, Robyn.

Your boy was loved and had a wonderful life with you. I hope that, in time, the good memories you made together will help you endure the sorrow of losing him.

Hugs.

I'm so very sorry to hear this sad news, Robyn. You've been brave and had to do the last kind and loving deed for your beautiful Thorin and I know he would thank you for freeing him of pain and giving him peace if he could. from us. You wrote a beautiful tribute to him. I hope he went gently and that you find some comfort in comforting his mate, Nookie, who is bound to miss him also. Hate to tell you how many tears I've shed into dog hair when hugging my dogs after losing one.

I have been having trouble on whether I should say something or not so I thought...would it hurt Robyn or would she be ok with this...I think she would be ok.

I was so very fortunate to have been with Robyn her DH and Big Brave Thorin when he left his worldly body this afternoon. His passing was peaceful and very honoring. Thorin's wonderful, loving and caring Dr. came in to her Clinic on a Sunday, and administered to him outside beneath some Fir Trees. Robyn and her wonderful DH were there to comfort and send Thorin off in their loving arms.

Thorin will be greatly missed by all who ever met him, he was a gentle giant. He even liked Sasha and me! Robyn, thank you for allowing me to be with you today.

Race over the Bridge my dear doggy friend.
Patti and Sasha.

I just want to thank everyone SO much for all the kind words, hugs, and compassion. It means a lot to us all. I'm very thankful for all of you

Patti, of course I don't mind. You were wonderful support for Shaun, Nookie and me, and we love you dearly. Thank you for being there MF

Nookie was very traumatized, though. We got home and he wouldn't let us touch him. He wouldn't even look at us for the first few hours. I think he thinks we killed his brother
He was a little better this morning, but then he had a pretty bad seizure a couple of hours ago

I just feel so lost.

Oh my, that poor boy . He must be mourning the loss of his brother . There is no way he would ever think you killed him, he just knows his mommy is extremely sad and his brother is not at home. .

Robyn, I'm so sorry to hear that Nookie is having such a hard time. It's very understandable that he would be. Halo still seems very gloomy sometimes. I'm sorry to hear Nookie had a seizure. I hope that's it for him and that he's uphill now. He doesn't blame you I'm sure. Try not to think that way. He's just thrown off kilter because of this, I'm certain he'll settle back down soon. Hugs to you all in this sad, sad time.

Thank you Sylvie, L4H, BM, Marko and DD for the kind words, and please tell Rainbow thank you as well
I know we did the right thing for Thorin, his eyes were so sad the last couple of days, and he was choking/panting a lot. Our grief comes from a more selfish place. We just don't want to be without him. He was my luvbug

The reason I say he may think that is because one of the ladies at the clinic said we should bring Nookie so he could say goodbye and know Thorin wouldn't be coming home, that they aren't traumatized by that sort of thing, so we did. Patti held Nookies leash and walked him around, then Shaun put him in the car until it was over. Afterward, Shaun got him out and walked him over to us, but Nookie stopped a couple of feet in front of us, looked at Thorin, sniffed the air, then got a very panicked look, turned and tried to run the other way. Then wouldn't let us near him for a few hours. It broke my heart.

But on a nicer note, Dr. Stelfox was awesome. She was going to come to the house, but the clinic she is at isn't allowing that anymore. She said she would still come, but we didn't want to get her in trouble, so we took him out to Spruce Grove and she took care of him under the pine trees. She had us give him 3 Tramadol an hour before, then she gave him a narcotic sedative and let him get very relaxed and sleepy. She hugged him, gave him a kiss, cried and said goodbye along with us. He went very peacefully. I have a few pictures, but I'm just not up to posting them right now. Maybe in a couple of days
